| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 1, 2006 Bottle from ross - pours a very dark brown with no head to speak of - spent coffee grounds and burnt grains in the aroma, along with some earthy/woody notes and some caramel/toffee - lactose is very apparent, but a little too much is used to try and balance the roasted grains, making the beer a little cloying - thin mouthfeel - tastes like old coffee with too much sugar in it - not all that good. biggcb (464), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 29, 2006 Bottle. Pours a dark brown bordering on black. Small tan head that recedes very quickly. The aroma is roasted malts and coffee. The taste is bitter chocolate, roasted malts, and tasty sweetness. It’s a bit on the sweet side, but it mostly works. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, mouthfeel is thin and a little watery.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 19, 2006 12 oz bottle, via acertain. Pours a clear very dark brown body under a one finger brown head that faded to a thin film. Aroma is very roasty with a nice lactose sweetness. Lighter notes of anise, chocolate, and caramel. Flavor is nicely roasty up front that fades to a lightly bitter lactose laced finish. A little char and chalk late in the finish also. Mouthfeel is fairly thin and watery in texture but the carbonation was soft and pleasant. Overall, fairly decent, but nothing that will blow you away. AlchemistZ (493), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 19, 2006 Completely opaque, black with a thin, brown head. Great dark fruit aroma with soft, subtle roast, sweetness, and toasted, dried milk. Very easy to drink but not overly complex. This is not a derogatory comment, this is a beautiful beer. It has a balanced impact and a great flavor. This is the best milk stout I have ever had. darkko (99), Kingsport, Tennessee, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 18, 2006 This is one of my favorite brews. I usually like ales the best but this was great. All I can say is bitter chocolate! A roasted chocolate taste pervades but there is also that smoothness that you find in a milk stout. I would definitely recommend this. decaturstevo (2007), decatur, Tennessee, USA
