Commercial Description:
A traditional full-bodied stout brewed with lactose (milk sugar). The subtle sweetness imparted by the lactose balances the sharpness of the highly roasted grains which give this delicious beer its black color.

12 oz bottle pours black with a medium sized creamy beige head that fades to a bubbly creamy ring. Coffee roasted malts with sweet sugars, red fruits, that almost have a touch of bourbon with some phenols. The roasted malts and coffee take a back seat to the sweetness that follows this through and through. Not over the top but present enough. The acidic roast with the sweet malts leave almost a sour taste. Bitter roast and sweet slightly sour finish. I’m not in love with it, but I’m not in love with the style either.

Draught at the Brick Store Pub in Atlanta. Pours dark black with a small brown head. Somewhat thin toasted malt aroma, with a bit of nuttiness and sweetness. Flavor a somewhat odd mixture of heavy roastiness with a bitter character, and a bit of lactose sweetness. Well balanced and pretty good.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown/black with a smallish tan head. Chocolate, coffee, smooth roast and some caramel. Very smooth and lush, slightly drying. Light creamy sweetness, rich roasty cocoa, with a nice long coffee and roast finish. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation. Very drinkable, excellent milk stout.

On tap at The Pinhook, Durham, NC. This was poured with zero head...bummer. Slightly milky and creamy. Not a strong roasted presence and I could feel some slight sourness and acidity. Although tame with the creaminess, this held it’s own ok and I found myself enjoying it more as I came towards the halfway point of the pint.

Bottle from Turdferguson. Pours a dark brown color, it is dark but not quite black. No head at all. The aroma is roasty coffee and chocolate. Flavors are well-balanced with roasty coffee, dark chocolate and a little smoke. Same as the aroma but it tastes stronger than it smells. Would have liked some sort of head on this but overall pretty solid. Thanks Sam!

this beer, and in my opinion others of this style are the antithesis of quenching. they leave behind a sticky spit, heavy aftertaste that makes you thirsty for water. that said, aroma was roasted grainy, flavor had a sharp quick note of coffee chocolate before proceeding into sweetness. not areally big fan of the milk sugar.
