Commercial Description:
Very dark in color. This robust porter features a pronounced flavor of roasted grains reminiscent of dark chocolate. Also, Paul and Brandon add oats to the grist to give a subtle round silkiness to the mouthfeel.

Two words: "Session Porter". Easily the most drinkable of any porter I’ve had so far. But another two words also come to mind: "Unibroue Porter". If Unibroue could ever pull themselves away from a Belgian ale, without resulting in the apocalypse, and brew a porter, I believe it would be much like this one.

Dark black beer with a huge fizzy and foamy beige head that persistently sticks around. The aroma isn’t terribly strong, but has a pleasant roasted smell. The flavor is mild but nicely balanced. Roasted malt right away with hints of dark fruit in there as well. Slightly bitter, dry, finish. Medium body but highly carbonated, which is unique for this style from what I’ve experienced. Extremely drinkable.

12 oz bottle courtesy Durhambeer. Pours a blackish brown with thick tan head. Very nice roasted grain aroma. Silky smooth roasted grain, chocolate malt taste. A very nice porter, very drinkable.

Tap at Trappeze. Appearance is deep dark brown with a creamy head. Aroma is malty sweet, with some chocolate and coffee coming through. Taste is similar with some fruit. Mouth is pretty smooth, creamy, with some carbonation. Not a bad effort for this style.

Bottle. Pours dark, dark brown, not quite pitch black with a huge dense off-white head that shows fantastic retention and decent lacing. Smell is mostly sweet malts with a heavy toasted/burnt aroma to it. There is also a bit of dark chocolate and espresso in the nose as well. Taste is much like the aroma - burnt malt taste up front with some dark fruits and chocolate. There is a hint of espresso bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy but with high carbonation and pretty dry in the finish. This is a pretty simple yet good porter that is very drinkable.

Opaque black with hints of ruby at the edges, a pillow of creamy tan head sits on top. The nose is weak, bits of roastiness peek through. Taste is light again, creamy mouthfeel with big chocolate notes but little malt flavor. A decent but otherwise forgettable porter.

Pours from the bottle to a very dark brown-almost black color. Aroma is a malty sweet chocolate with hints of toffee, and roasted nuts. Flavor is more of the same malt sweetness. Palate is watery at first, but as the beer warms, it actually becomes more full tasting and the finish is thick and sweet.

Bottle. Dark brown with slight red hint. Not too much of a tan head. Roasty sweet malty milky aroma, with a little coffee. More of the same on the palate. Slightly hoppy but not over the top. Not too heavy on the palate, either. I’m not generally a big fan of porters, but this was hitting the spot for me tonight.
