Commercial Description:
Very dark in color. This robust porter features a pronounced flavor of roasted grains reminiscent of dark chocolate. Also, Paul and Brandon add oats to the grist to give a subtle round silkiness to the mouthfeel.

This porter has a decent look to it. The head is a plain white color. The beer is pretty much black, although I feel it is just extremely dark brown to where it appears to be black. The head has faded away quickly. There is nothing extremely special about this beer, in regards to looks. There is a nice roasted smell coming off of the beer, but I am reminded too much of the milk stout. I smell the milk stout that the brew in this beer. Each friggin beer should have its own characteristics. The aroma is just too weak for me. The beer is incredibly creamy and smooth, very nice. The roast flavor just explodes in my mouth. There is a hint of coffee, but it is the roast flavor that dominates. I am not happy with the fact that this is so close to the milk stout. In some cases, I would like to think that this is one and the same, but I know that it is not. I woud like to touch on the palate again, it is very carbonated. The beer is too carbonated for a porter. Overall, the beer has wonderful points. The malts are great, the beer is creamy, but also too carbonated. The coffee, roasted malts are all there, but the beer just needs a thicker palate and more adjusting on the strength of the flavor, and it would be an A++ beer.

Bottle. Pours a dark black color with a small, tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, nuts and hops. Light coffee influence in there also. Taste is smooth and full with flavors of roasted chocolate malt, molasses, oatmeal maybe and light hops. Has a bitter sweet complex finish.

Bottle courtesy of leftmindedrighty. Thanks!
Pours mostly black with some light coming through in the edges. Tan head that doesn’t last. Somewhat thin looking. Smell is roasty malt, some cardboard like notes and coffee. Taste is tart at first sip, and roasty character beyond that with a lingering sourness. Tastes like a watery cherry porter. A bit thin and the tartness seems really out of place, but not spoiled. I’m continually let down by this brewery, and can not understand the hype. Especially unimpressed by this one. Blah.

Pours a rich sable brown, almost opaque, with a thick, fine-bubbled tan head. Smoky aroma has some maltiness and coffee undertones. Flavor is rich, strongly of burnt coffee with hints of molasses and some hoppy bitterness. It leaves a hoppy and smoky aftertaste.

Thanks to Shane for this one. Pours out cola colored, forming a dark black body and a tall tan head that leaves thick traces of lace on the sides of the glass. Caramel and chocolate aroma dominates and there is a tiny hint of fruity banana or something hiding behind the more pronounced sweetness. Thin bodied, chocolaty at first then becomes quite burnt and roasted then finishes with a mouthful of ashy water. This was a bit of a disappointment.

12 ounce bottle. In my opinion, this is the definition of a very good porter. There is nothing extravagent about it but it is exactly what you would expect from a porter. Pours a dark brown color with a half finger width tan head. The aroma consisted of chocolate, nuts, and roasted malts. The taste is about the same as the smell... very roasty with chocolate and nut hints. Finish was very pleasant with a bitter undertone. This was a very good porter... can’t hold a candle to their Baltic Porter, but then again, not much can.

From bottle : Pours very dark in color, with a half finger of offwhite head that dies fairly quick. Nose is roasty, with some fruits coming through as well. Taste is roasty as well, with some hints of smoke, and that fruityness from the nose showing up again, with a tiny bit of alcohol in the end. Aftertaste is roasted, but faint. Medium body with a good smooth feel. Pretty decent porter.

Bottle thanks to DragonStout. Pours a deep brown color with a thick, rocky tan head. Aroma of light roastiness and a hint of vinous fruit. Weird biting crispness leads into a roasted malt flavor with undertones of chocolate and light cherry. Finishes smooth with a light smokiness that dries the palate out a bit. Like the Milk Stout, this was different, but still pretty good. I enjoyed this one a bit more than the milk stout though.
