Commercial Description:
Very dark in color. This robust porter features a pronounced flavor of roasted grains reminiscent of dark chocolate. Also, Paul and Brandon add oats to the grist to give a subtle round silkiness to the mouthfeel.

Thanks to ucusty for this bottle. Deathly dark with a righ hot chocolate colored head. Very frothy with nice lacing. Aromas is subdued, with some roastyness, but not much else. Rich coffee flavor with a big astringancy, some metallic flavors on the finish. Good mouthfeel. Thanks ucusty.

Deep brown/black. Fairly sturdy dark brown head. There is a nice crispness in the mouth. Typical mocha/coffee of a good porter, a bit more carbonation. Solid all around.

Bottle courtesy of Turdfurgeson: Poured a light clear black color porter with a huge foamy dirty brown color head with good retention and some very good lacing. Aroma of black chocolate and roasted coffee with a dry ending with limited bitterness. Taste is also dominated by dry coffee and chocolate notes with a nice creamy texture. I really appreciated the creamy texture and the great carbonation. I thought this was a well balance take on the style and would enjoy having regular access to this beer.

From a 12oz Bottle, BB Date 9/2007. Obtained in a trade with afatty9/2007. Thanks, Glenn! Dark black, almost chalky charcoal colored with a thick layer of clingy, light, fizzy tan foam. Aromas of pumpernickel bread crusts and baker’s cocoa jump out right away, along with some grassy hops. Medium bodied, boldly carbonated mouthfeel that dissipates quickly off the palate with a gentle, shimmering effervescence. The mouthfeel is actually quite nice, as the carbonation works well with the soft, velvety texture to lift the heavy flavors cleanly off the tongue. Toasted oats come out immediately on the palate; dry chocolate and molasses cookie follow soon after. Not overly roasty at this point, but brimming with plenty of dark malt flavor. Clean, flavorful, and all the while perfectly drinkable.

From a bottle poured a dark brown/black color with a good amount of head. Nice smokey flavor with a sharp aftertaste.

Courtesy (again) of Gillard, thanks buddy. Pours a deep amber with thin tan head. The aroma comes across as pretty sweet for a Porter. It is sweet as well as roasty at the same time with mild burnt maltiness. The flavor starts sweet and roasty. I get lighter roasted malts before the burnt malt flavors enter toward the finish. The malt after taste holds a mostly burnt maltiness. Flavorful Porter but a little light on the burnt malts I come to expect from the style. Yum. The after taste goes for a while and really makes this beer work for me.

Bottle... Pours dark and sits black in my glass with a small, creamy, beige head. The rich, malty nose is of roasted cashews and milk chocolate. The flavor is of hearty, sweet chocolate with plenty of roasted, burnt notes. Medium to full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and middling carbonation. Bitter-sweet, dark chocolate, Mojave-dry finish. A tip of my glass to Gillard for sharing this bottle!
