Commercial Description:
Very dark in color. This robust porter features a pronounced flavor of roasted grains reminiscent of dark chocolate. Also, Paul and Brandon add oats to the grist to give a subtle round silkiness to the mouthfeel.

aroma: aroma was roasty, but had a band-aid like note in the backround that wasn’t pleasing. This note also carried into the taste of the beer and really ruined it for me. I thought that maybe that it was just the keg at the draft house in Raliegh where I was at, however, I tried a milk stout the next day and it had that same off-flavor. I would attribute this to the yeast, as I had this note appear in a porter that I once brewed, and ended up dumping actually. This was not as pronounced though and I could at least drink it. A fine looking porter that is inky black and opague with a tan head that slowly disolves into a film at the top of the beverage. palate was quite nice and rounded. I expected better.

Appearance is the norm. It’s dark, okay? Aroma is of coffee, burnt toast, chocolate, sourness and beer. Clashing. Flavor is more sourness with hints of chocolate, but it’s thin and flat. Everyone’s a critic. Occasional.

Bottle from Saarlandander after SoCal tasting. Thanks Aaron! Large 2 finger tan head with medium bubbles that fades quickly to small bubble ring. Black color. Aroma of chocolate and oatmeal possibly a bit of vanilla. Taste is a bit dry and thin. A little bit sour (I often get this impression from 5-8% dark beers, and I want to think the water for mashing has the wrong pH level). Carbonation is a little harsh on the tongue. Not my favorite. 3.1 is generous.

Pours a spent oil color. Medium head. Smells of alcohol and chocolate. Tastes like roasted coffee and malt. Musky finish. Very strong long lasting flavor. The best regular Porter, in my opinion.

Appearance: Pours a deep dark brown body with ruby-hued edges and a foamy, creamy-looking beige head. Smell: Doughy, dark roasted malt aroma, with a good measure of chocolate and maybe even some sour black cherries in the distant background. Taste: Full roasted malt flavor with well-rounded notes of chocolate and coffee. Some cola-like tastes midway. Faint fruitiness. A hint of sweet lemon juice on the otherwise roasty finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Enjoyable and interesting enough for a relatively low-ABV porter. I’d certainly be willing to pick this one up again if Duck-Rabbit would ever make their way into the GA market.

An average porter, but with some bitterness. Coffee, dark malt favors. Somewhat flatter than what I like. I was frankly surprised because usually all the Duck-Rabbit brands exceed my expectations. This one met them, which is still good.

Poured a dark brown / red color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, toffee, vanilla, some chocolate, and light dark fruits. Taste of roasted malts, dried fruits, light chocolate, smoke, and some nuts as well.
