The aroma is rich and chocolatey with noticeable malt characteristics. The flavor is complex with initial chocolate and malt flavors followed by lingering sweetness and tartness. Very smooth and drinkable. thegreenrooster (1852), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 24, 2007 Pour is a jet black with a average tan head. Aroma is a nice mix of chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor is decent with some milk chocolate and a roasted oat. Leaves a woody after taste on the tounge. Pretty decent attempt. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 21, 2007 Rich milky chocolate roast aroma. Very smoth and drinkable, lots of roast character, medium sweetness, fairly fruit-tangy. Super dark ruby black-brown. Not the most complex that I’ve ever had, but it’s really very good. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 18, 2007 Poured a dark brown color with good head. Aroma was of strong chocolate and malts. Flavor a very nice blend of chocolate and dark fruits, had a bitter chocolate finish to it. I prefer this one of the milk stout but the Baltic porter is way better then this one. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2007 Black body with a very small tan head. The fruity and cacao flavours co-exist peacefully in a very well malted creamy body. Could be the because I had their Milk Stout just before but I found this one to be a bit lactic too. Finish is pleasantly dry with a woody and floury taste/mouthfeel. Doesn’t really stand-out but it is nonetheless an above average “black” beer. And one day when I’m sober enough I’d like someone to finally explain to me what truly differentiate a stout from a porter. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 15, 2007 Courtesy muenster. Pours a dark brown with a thin white head. Smells of light coffee and roasted malts. The taste is pretty full flavored, very roasty, some nuts and dark malts seem to be the most prevalant. Definitely a coffee base towards the finish. Aftertaste has some caramel and roast, with just a touch of bitterness. Pretty good. muenster (341), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 15, 2007 Bottle. Pours dark garnet/black with a large, fluffy tan head. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate, lots of coffee, and a mild roastiness. Flavor doesn’t quite measure up to the aroma. A bit of abrasive coffee and ashy roast, with mild chocolate notes and a bit of a sweet finish. Mouthfeel is medium, actually a bit lighter than I expected after reading the commercial description. jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 5, 2007 Dark beer with cola-like highlights. Huge, rocky tan head. The beer was very carbonated and I had to slowly coax it into the glass around the foam. Roasted grain nose with an almost root beer sweetness. Very roasty taste, with burnt cocoa and coffee beans. Some thin brown sugar sweetness, but its tempered by the burnt toast, roasted coffee bean flavors. The finish seems to show more alcohol than the 5.7% would indicate. Decent porter.
