Commercial Description:
Very dark in color. This robust porter features a pronounced flavor of roasted grains reminiscent of dark chocolate. Also, Paul and Brandon add oats to the grist to give a subtle round silkiness to the mouthfeel.

Bottle. Huge (actually too big for me) khaki (mostly lasting) frothy head. Dark black head. Aromas of chocolate and chocolate. Flavor is initially acidic and finishes sweeter. Average length in finish. Lively carbonation. Light to medium bodied. Watery texture. I have to agree with some previous raters and state that if this porter had less acidic bite it would be much better.

Soda-fizzy tan head on a very dark brown, near-black body. The expected porter elements of dark cocoa and roasted coffee are quick to arrive followed by an interesting assortment of currents, anise and toasted caraway seeds. Mellow flavor with a good amount of cocoa and bright coffee acidity along with a dark fruit/cola tang. Low bitterness throughout. Velvety texture and soft carbonation seal the deal on this one. A little less fruity acidity/sharpness would go a long way in this beer.

My Bottom Line:
Intelligent charred roastiness and sensual darkened cereals build a rich body which is almost balanced by the dry, earthy, wooden hops, allleviating the malt’s omnipresence just enough to facilitate the next gulp.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A screen of foam diminishes to a ring atop the brown-sleeved blackness.
-Molasses develop from the dark chocolate and roastiness; very complex maltiness for a humble porter.
-Carbonation’s perfect, letting the malts express themselves.
-Cola roots tickle the nose and flavor profile.
-Drinkability and nourishment coexist, to my greatest pleasure.

Bottles; best before May ’07.

Bottle at Taco Mac, TN. Pours clear dark brown color with a large frothy light brown head that was lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malty aroma. Medium to full body. Balanced roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of an average duration. This is a solid drinkable porter.

pours quite black with a big well-retained tan head. roasty nose leans towards rather sharp coffee notes. flavor even more-so with the coffee, with a pretty solid, drying IBU bite. nice beer. perhaps as much a dry stout as a porter, but hey.

12-oz., courtesy the kind hand of BitBucket. Dark ebony black. Medium tannish head--thin--that falls to light lace and a bit of swirl. Dusty chocolate and some sharp coffee on the nose. Forward, tingly attack and a big coffee bomb mid palate. Roasty and ashy, especially at the finish. Nice, but not one for sipping or sessioning as much as it is a food beer.
