Commercial Description:
Very dark in color. This robust porter features a pronounced flavor of roasted grains reminiscent of dark chocolate. Also, Paul and Brandon add oats to the grist to give a subtle round silkiness to the mouthfeel.

Bottle from Suttree. Deep opaque brown body, medium tan-ochre head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, licorice, and dark burnt sugars. Bitter body with strong coffee and roasted malts, the primary characteristic being sharp, distracting carbonation. A dry porter, a bit thin-bodied, but pretty good.

Bottle. Classic porter nose, heavy roast and chocolate. Deep, not-quite opaque red-brown body with a fizzy light brown head. Roasty taste with a little ash in the finish, but notes are evident in a long aftertaste. A weak lactose note. Undercut by a thin, fruity, vinous note. Sour tartness and acidity are the key flavors here for me, though they’re not overly assertive. Sweetness is restrained. Medium body with a little too much fizzy carbonation for my liking, but not really a minus. No significant bitterness or hoppiness, no notes of alcohol or yeast. The nose is a good one, and the body very flavorful, but I’d rather have a porter from Sierra Nevada or Bell’s at this point.

From the bottle, pours black with a decent foamy tan head, nice lacing. Smells like a porter, frozen chocolate, roasted malts. Tastes like a porter too. Freezer burned chocolate, roasted malts, lightly bitter. The alcohol comes in towards the end as well. Pretty good porter here.

Tasted in Winston-Salem North Carolina. A small regional. Pours with an enormous head. Roasty malt aroma. Some smokey notes in the sweet porter taste. Somewhat vinty. Great silky rich taste and feel. Highly reccomended.

Bottle via trade with Decaturstevo. Black with nice sized tan head. Weird roastedmalt/vinagar smell. The taste was of roasted malts, dark chocolate, and earth. Too much fizzy carbonation going on here. Dry finish. Maybe I should try another bottle? Thanks, Steve.

GABF 2006. Black bodied. Nose is roasty malts, chocolate and coffee - standard porter, pretty much, but a bit sweeter. The flavor of this one seems to echo that as well. More roasty malts, chocolate coffee but a tad sweeter than expected. Body is creamy and smooth. Medium-full with mild carbonation. Finishes with more roasty notes, sweet malts, and bittersweet chocolate.

Bottle thanks to ross. Pours nearly black but with a lighter head than the Baltic. Smells of chocolate, some dark fruits (raisins, plums, prunes) and some roastiness. Taste is of sweet roasted malt with a nutty afterbite. Also a pretty decent beer from this brewer.
