Commercial Description:
Very dark in color. This robust porter features a pronounced flavor of roasted grains reminiscent of dark chocolate. Also, Paul and Brandon add oats to the grist to give a subtle round silkiness to the mouthfeel.

Bottle, BB 11/06. Head is initially large, frothy/fizzy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate), with a note of minerals. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Surprisingly bitter, and not a very interesting or enticing nose. Drinkable enough, but quite plain.

Nice porter. I thought I detected a hint of oats in this, and I did. Good balance and a nice rich roasted flavor. The only complaint is the touch of cardboardyness on the finish.

GABF 2006. The beer pours to a dark mahogany body with a tan head. The aroma is light bittersweet chocolate and cocoa powder. Rich coffee. The flavor is rich coffee and dry roasty chocolate. Quite a good blended/balanced brew. Dry creamy palate. Medium-full bodied.

It looks like cola, only with a once-frothy head that faded to no head at all. It is a dark, reddish brown. Strong cocoa bitterness, and botht eh flavor and the aroma are filled with roasted malts. There is a pleasant nuttiness and vanilla. The flavor is full-bodied. It is a nice, bitter yet well-balanced beer.

Snagged this one on the way to vacation in North Carolina and I’m really glad I did. Pours black with a silky tan head. Nice aroma: smoke, chocolate, coffee, perhaps a bit of peat. Flavor holds a nice bit of of that similar smopkiness and some sour/bitter coffee perhaps with some bakers chocolate. Very smooth mouthfeel...a pleasant carbonation and a solid body...smokey, roasty...malty, a bit bitter, and a bit creamy with a very subtle sweetness throughout. The chocolate and coffee come out like crazy as it warms. Pretty solid and a damn flavorful porter.

Very nice! Pours a deep brown almost black color. Aroma is very robust. Has nice scent of roasted malt, choco, and maybe some slight coffee scent. Flavor was great. One of the best porters I have drank. It was very much like the aroma. Great brew guys!

From notes 10/6/04: Pours an intensely deep rich brown color with bright clear ruby red highlights along the edges when held to the light. A frothy light beige head forms but recedes in no time to just a milky swirl floating on top. Moderate lacing. Aromas are chock full o’ coffee and chocolate. Smells sweet from the chocolate notes, yet bitter from the roasted coffee tones. Flavors offer the same bittersweet character: chocolatey sweetness followed by an almost intense bitterness. Is it from the hops? From charred malts? Just a pleasant (if it can be called that) bitter flavor. A touch on the thinner side for its body and mouthfeel. A smidge too watery for a higher score. Other than that, I find no obvious characteristics that do not agree with me. A nice quaffable porter.
