does not count Quirkmeister (7), North Carolina, USA Jan 24, 2008 Another fine product from Duck-Rabbit. If you like a good Porter then try this. Hard to find outside the Carolina area.
juiceisloose (338), Orlando, Florida, USA Oct 9, 2008 Pours an almost opaque black color with some mahogany at the edges. A huge, foamy beige head that just keep coming and eventually with some help settles to a thin film. Their beers are certainly carbonated. The aroma is nice and shows notes of milk chocolate, roasted coffee, and creamy malts. The flavor follows the same with the chocolate, coffee, and cream all blended together nicely. Medium bodied and pretty smooth and easy to drink. Some raosted coffee is left behind on the short finish. There is just a bit too much carbonation though. This is a pretty nice session porter. tarheels86 (39), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Oct 9, 2008 355 mL bottle. Pours fairly dark- a very deep, cloudy red. Head is small and carbonation is fairly high for a porter. Aroma is of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt. Could be slightly fruity..I agree with Bigmmartin that this could be a Unibroue Porter if one existed. Taste is a little watery, hops are outweighed by the roasted malt...could be a little sour in my opinion. Aftertaste is dry and tart. Overall, smells a lot better than it tastes. DR is the dark beer specialist but I have to say the seasonal varieties (all four) are much more impressive. As for the normal DRs I would stick to the Milk Stout. ilovedarkbeer (764), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 3, 2008 Bottle courtesy of BMan1113VR. Pours almost black with a small tope head. Nose is papaya, coffee, apple brandy, and dark chocolate. Really taste nose. Taste is good but not great. Mouthfeel is on the thinner side, tastes like bacon, smoke, metal, chocolate, and some dried dark fruit. Pretty good but the nose is the real high point. BMan1113VR (913), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Oct 2, 2008 Bottle thanks to Suttree. Shared with ilovedarkbeer. Agreed with daknole, not even close to the Baltic Porter. Pours a very dark brown, with a light brown head that gives a good lacing. Very flowery aroma with chocolate and some dark fruits, apple and papaya as well. Taste is fruit with lots of coffee, a bit bitter and metallic. Light carbonation. daknole (852), Plantation, Florida, USA Sep 26, 2008 Pretty good porter, but not even close to the baltic that DR makes...not even close. Black pour with a small tannish head. Aromas of chocolate, espresso, roasted malt, toast, and nuts. Flavor is pretty robust, very toasty. Sweetness is muted and hops are evident, but not by much. well done for a basic porter.
