Black with a small very dark brown head. Taste - a little different. Alcohol is very present and the roast is nice but the body is a touch thin and has a lactic quality I do not care for. Still, this one has a lot of layers and is one big stout which I enjoyed having. jgb9348 (2511), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 29, 2009 Deep pitch black coloured body, completely opaque. The head pours nice and small - one centimetre deep brown. Aroma of roasted malt, milk, caramel and a bit of cherries. Thick, full-bodied; Strong coffee, oatmeal and roasted malt in the taste with a bit of nuts and milk following soon behind. Aftertaste shows lactic qualities, sweetness and a touch of dry coffee. Overall, a very nice imperial stout, perhaps not complex enough, but good for the location! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Durham, North Carolina on 31-August-2008, at home in Washington, drunk on 28-January-2009. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA

Aromas of alcohol, rich roasted malts, caramel, and some coffee. Flavor is right up front with alcohol and roasted malts. Chocolate notes are present in the finish. The alcohol is way too dominant and makes this one a bit hard to choke down. I think it need to sit in the dark for a few years to settle and develop some better characteristics. riversideAK (2746), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2009 2007 bottle I think. Aroma of ripe dark fruits, roasted malt, earthy hops, and a touch of booze. Pours more or less black with a nice brown head initially which settles in to a brown ring. Flavors of dark ripe fruit and alcohol initially, some chocolate and brown sugar, then a long robust roasted and burnt malt finish. The roast and burnt notes linger for a super long time with a super dry mouth feel. Like BlackForest said, this one is pretty harsh, even after a year, but I like the assertive robust-ness... Pretty decent. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 22, 2009 Pours deep dark with spotty mocha head. The aroma is roasty malts, molasses sweetness, rich chocolate, licorice and a bit of burnt malts. The taste begins sweet and rich with malts, chocolate and molasses. Really, what more do you need? To midway the flavor moves toward burnt malts and then into the finish it sweetens up with more molasses and thick malt sweetness. In the background are persistent vague tasting hops. Very nice stuff. BlackForestCO (828), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 21, 2009 Bottle from ucusty, thanks man. Poured a deep brown/black color with a half-inch tan head that recedes to a decent sized ring. Roasted malt aroma with hints of chocolate, toffee, hazelnut, and a bit of dark fruits. Sweet, lightly tart entry with some light fruitiness (berry and ripe plum) leads into an abrasive maltiness with a somewhat off-putting burnt flavor with some undertones of wood and roasted coffee that ends somewhat dry and abruptly with some lingering nuttiness. Average mouthfeel with low carbonation. A bit to harsh and abrasive for my liking, but it does have some promising attributes that aren’t as common in other imperial stouts, such as the ripe fruitiness. Perhaps some time would smooth this out. jsh12bama (343), Alabama, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 17, 2009 Pours black with thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, and dark fruits. Good lacing. Taste is big on chocolate, molasses, and dark fruit. Alcohol definitely hot in this one. Thinner mouthfeel than I like. markwise (1187), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA

Lots of yellow lacing upon swirl. Nose is chocolate, roasted malt, licorice, some oak character and a bit of coffee bitterness. The coffee sticks around at the end and reminds you that you could use another one. Very nice.
