Aroma is chocolate milk and some roasted malt. Flavor is sweet milk chocolate, roast, and maybe some metallic dry-hopping. Finish is strange (nutty?) and the mouthfeel is a little off. Good flavor otherwise. bradlyc77 (226), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours black, with a mahogany head.
Aroma is roasted
Taste is roasted malts, filled with alcohol and some dark fruits notes. Light bitter chocolate, beer remains very sweet. Some coffee in the mouthfeel.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 20, 2008 Bottle courtesy of wagenvolks. Poured into a snifter. Completely black with a rather small mahogany head that recedes quickly to a meandering swirl of foam.
Aromas of chocolate flavored graham crackers, lots of roastiness, some lactic sweetness, and some plum/grape.
Burnt coffee flavor with some chocolate and brown sugar sweetness, noticeable alcohol, and a subtle grape cough syrup note.
Body and carbonation could stand to be a bit more substantial. Good clean finish with a pleasant warmth from the booze. JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 13, 2008 Thanks to puzzl for giving me a bottle of this. Dark black inky pour with a fast-fading head. Aroma is roasty and very chocolately. Sweet rich cocoa, roast, licorice and molasses. Flavour is quite unusual. There is all of the usual roasty/chocolatey character, but also an intense chewy earthy roastiness with a light salty/sour quality that I’m not sure I care for. Heavy intense roasty bitterness that clobbers anything else that might be in here. Yeah, this is a miss for me. Collint (465), Sylva, North Carolina, USA
