| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Pours black, minimal head. Classic bold bitter RIS though only average mouthfeel, and extra coconut chocolate in there for sweetening and drinakbility. A nice RIS for sure, but a bit disapointed in relation to the ratings. I think this part of the world need get used to a wider sampling of what an RIS is. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 7, 2008 Pours tar like and foaming over the edge. Milky skin of tanned marshmallow is indefinite. Sharp and commanding aroma of chocolate, prune, and minerals; some oiliness and soft, leafy floral hops and bits of tropical and dark fruit. Lots of burnt butterscotch, tropical fruits and espresso; a lot going on, and generally pleasant. Flavor is tacky and sweet like maple syrup poured into cola, and ridden with green apple and awkward citrus sweetness; still gives a tepid hint of dry, floral tone, but the sugars are really dominating. Some hints of pear, molasses, and the vague, tinny sourness of jameson. Palate is tangy and rough; medium to full in body and simply overwhelming in sweetness. Lots of unrefined sugar and honey in the lengthy finish, giving a bit of rich roast and tobacco ash. A very dull experience altogether. Thanks Ken! pepsican (885), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 2, 2008 Pours black with a lively tan head. Nice dark fruit aroma. flavor is chocolate malt, toffee, coffee, more fruit. Finishes dry, not much of a hint of the abv. A tad bit too carbonated. An interested RIS. hotstuff (3176), Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 29, 2008 Bottle at patrick767 gathering. Small fizzy tan head that mostly diiminished, splotchy amount of lacing, opaque, no visible carbonation, and a dark brown-black hue. Nose was malty, burnt, roasty, chocolate and alcohol. Flavor was roasty, chocolate, coffee, malty, and rich tasting. Mouthfeel was slightly tingly. Medium body. Very quaffable, very tasty and definitely worthy of a try. This is an Impy Stout that I would drink again. douglas88 (1662), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 14, 2008 Bottle thanks to jrob_21. Pours a dark black hue with a small light-brown head. The aroma is really great; plums, prune, brown sugars and roasted malt. The taste is just what I expected from DR; a amazingly smooth silky body, tons of dark fruits, brown sugar, some dry roasted malts, coffee, and a bitter dark chocolate finish. I guess I am in the minority, but this beer is damn great. decaturstevo (2007), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2008 12oz btl. A deep brown black pour with a dark tan head and lace. An aroma of large chocolate maltiness jumps out at you first followed by the presence of abv. Flavor is rich semi sweet chocolate with a dark chocolate kinda bitter. You know the kind it is suppose to taste soo rich and sweet because its chocolate but it has that bitter finish that throws you, but in this case it is a pleasant sort of bitter finish. The palate is solid and thick but it is a little foamy for my tastes. Overall a very nice IS. Pastor (509), Maine, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 9, 2008 Thanks to MuenchenerKindl for the opportunity to sample such a delightful brew
12 oz bottle poured into my Duvel tulip produced a good fingers worth of coco colored head that turns to a nice coating of lace on top of a jet black body
Aromas of toasted malts coffee and chocolate light alcohol whiffs every once in awhile
Flavors of sweet chocolate and strong roasted coffee bitter in the end
Good rich mouthfeel the Duvel tulip did help alleviate some of the obvious over carbonation when the beer was just poured. The mouthfeel was great in the end
I’d drink it again but one a sitting is enough. I was very impressed with this brewery I would love to try more of their brews
