Nose is of cherries, chocolate, and some burnt malt. Great flavors of the aforementioned, with hints of vanilla and all around goodness. As it warms the flavors really come out.Rather creamy mouthfeel, with an alcohol bite in the finish that is not all bad. goodgoodgood. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 11, 2009 A nice run of the mill impy. Aroma was good. Coffee beans and a hint of chocolate. Pour was a nice deep dark brown/near black with a two finger tan head. Taste was good and balanced. Roasted bitter chocolate malt is most dominant with just a hint of burnt chocolate and bitter hops in the aftertaste. The alcohol is hidden well and very good carbonation for an imperial stout. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 11, 2009 Bottle Pours a deep black with a decent tan head. The head lasts well, and laces very well. Has a good aroma of malts, chocolate, sweetness, and alcohol. Has a good carbonation and a good mouthfeel. The flavors a re good and hearty. Light alcohol burn. Nice mixture, blended very well and hides the alcohol well. Has a full body. A real solid finish. Great aftertaste. Has enough bittterness to mix up the heartiness. Has an oily texture. Is a real sweet stout, but it is very good. cheapdark (2024), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 6/20 | May 10, 2009 One 5 oz sample of a 6 beer sampler at 3 son’s in Wexford, nice place. Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Supposedly by the DR owner. Smell is rather fruity and volatile. Appearance is very appealing and stacks up with the looks of any attractive brew. Coal black with a choco mousse head. Head fades after a while. Strong bitter and burned alky first taste impact. Rude and crude, it is what it is; a good on style impy stout. In yer face and burns a little when you swallow. A warm glow follows the brew into you hatch. Long bitter black burned wood & alky linger on the finish. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 7, 2009 [Draft @ Capones] Poured an opaque black color with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, some vanilla bean, dark chocolate, dark fruits, and light alcohol. Taste of bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts, some smoke, vanilla, dried fruits, and alcohol. Draft was pretty nice, but i’ve had other bottles I held off on rating because they had gone south. jmikolich (405), Athens, Ohio, USA
