Lightly roasted, caramel aroma that don’t seem quite to meld, it could use a bit more booze to heat it up and bring it all together.
Well carbonated and plenty of malty caramel and biscuit/fruity flavors, with a bit of yeasty finish that came off almost like those candy bananas. This might be in the upper tier of American-made Wee Heavys, but we’ve had so many knockouts in my neck of the woods that it sort of gets lost in the shuffle. It is wickedly drinkable, I’d almost say sessionable if it weren’t for the 8% ABV. Glouglouburp (2877), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 20, 2007 Partly cloudy burgundy body topped a very small beige ring of foam. Lots and lots of caramel. Very much focussed on a caramel dessert flavour, like baked caramelized something. Hard-candies, the caramel kind. Needless to say it is very sweet. Underneath the caramel hides the expected dark fruits flavours and in my case I even got some berries/strawberries. Full body with medium carbonation. Overall this is a satisfying beer although rather simple. As far as Scotch Ales are concerned this is average, maybe a bit above average. Considering this brewery other excellent offerings I think this is a disappointment. Don’t know how I feel about it, I haven’t decided if I understand ambiguity. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 19, 2007 Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with reddish hues and a light beige head.
Smell: Odd, bewildering aroma of peanut brittle, smoked meats, and spiced oatmeal cookies which I will remember every single moment until the end of my days.
Taste: Butter toffee sweetness attached to sharp notes of wood, cinnamon, peanuts, sherry, and marzipan. Its the beer equivalent of Frankenstein’s Monster. This has been my experience through three different bottles now. There will be no fourth attempt with this Duck-Rabbit brew.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Mild carbonation. Slight alcohol warmth.
Drinkability: I don’t know if my friends have been noticed I seem a bit down this last week, but its due to this beer. unclemattie (2432), Georgia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 15, 2007 Bottle courtesy of ross. Best before 03/07. Pours a clear, very bubbly deep ruby with an average size tan head. Aroma: Oh wow, that smells great! Malty with plenty of dark fruit, some toffee, maple syrup, a hint of chocolate, nuts and more -- very nice. Flavour’s just as good: Sweet with toasty caramel malt, dark fruit, chocolate, maple syrup, brown sugar, nuts, alcohol and an earthy, slightly smoky finish...there’s lots going on here -- very flavourful and goes down easy, I drank this pretty quick. Alcohol’s quite well hidden. Medium to full bodied. Fantastic, one of the best Scotch Ales I’ve ever had.
