Body-looks like a barley wine-thin patch of bubbles, medium ring of bubbles. Taste-lightly sour, medium sweetness, alcohol, hot, fruity, aluminum on the finish, grassy, hay/husk. Kind of sweet with little to no peaty, surprisingly. Amazingly hot, Sticky. slang (400), Columbia, South Carolina, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 1, 2007 Updated: Jan 7, 2007Pours dark copper with an ephemeral soapy light white head. Aroma is very sweet - apricot and caramel notes. There’s peat aromas in there, but they’re shouldered aside by the sweetness. Mildly carbonated with a medium-thick mouthfeel. Taste is sweet throughout with a faint suggestion of spice/peat in the finish. In general, the sweetness overwhelms this beer. I have a few, so I’ll re-evaluate it in a while. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 31, 2006 Bottle consumed months ago and now finally rated: Pours a rich sunset brown topped by a small but lasting off-white head and left vg lace on the glassware. The nose detects a rich carmel and toffee sweetness over cashew and walnut toppings supported by a dose of heather, wild mountain honey, and fresh peat moss.
The taste is pure malty goodness with a finishing nip of alcohol and over ripened fruits. The aftertaste is smoky and oh so earthy. In the end there is a woody dryness that counterbalanced the heavy malts to some degree. I wish actually for more bite and nip to clean up the palate a bit better. Overall, one the better Scotch Ales I have had from the New World. I hope this is a positive trend. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2006 Doughy, floral aroma has plenty of nutty marzipan malt sweetness and a hint of smoke. Clear brown body is topped by a low tan head that recedes to cover. Sweet marzipan nuttiness, chocolate, floral, earthy hops, light touches of alcohol and a hint of smoke round out the pleasant malt body. Medium full body is somewhat sticky despite strong carbonation (that is perhaps a bit over the top for the style). Bottle sampled with BeerPrince, CapFlu, frink and Oakes. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 24, 2006 Nice clear reddish brown color with a pleasant sweet malt aroma. Flavor is an explosion of honey, malt, and a touch of earthiness. You can definitely taste the alcohol in this one, but it is not excessive. A powerful and upfront beer. The problem is that the sweetness quickly becomes overwhelming, and I found myself having a hard time finishing it. RCL (1480), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 23, 2006 Beautiful looking scotch. Complex aroma of malt with a bit of peatiness. The sweetness is just a bit cloying, otherwise I would have rated this higher. bu11zeye (5510), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 16, 2006 (Bottle, BB 03/07) Pours a dark reddish body with a small beige head. Aroma of nuts, toffee, wet dried corn husks, wood, raisins, caramel and corn grain dust. Flavor of sweet fruit, caramel malt, and a hint of scotch. Seems a bit thin.
