Bottle thanks to TURDFERGUSON. Marked as best before 07/09. Pours with a small, light brown head that fades and a clear, auburn hued body. Aroma of brown sugar, port, strong sticky toffee, vinous, raisins, light smoke, peat and graham cracker. Taste is maple, peat, smoke and booze, not quite as deep or nice as the aroma. Syrupy mouthfeel, light bubbles.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Suttree. Best before 07 09 notched on bottle. Pour is hazed ruby brown with a smallish light tan head. Aroma is floral sweet caramel, and not too much else. The aroma is very soft, faint and rounded. Taste is a twangy bitter sweet caramel sweetness, with a nice dose of peatiness and malt. The sweetness borders on cloying. The finish is very much peat, earthy and lingering. The taste is much more forward than the nose. The floral hoppiness is in the finish as well. Palate is medium, mouth coating and a bit slick at the same time. This beer is quite complex and tasty, thanks for sending my way Phil!

Bottle. Pours dark, amber with a small off-white head with fairly quick dispersion. Aroma is strong caramel, toffee, brown sugar, slight bit of scotch and peat in aroma--a tad bit too much sugar in aroma, comes off as very cloying on the nose. Flavor is strong malts, similar to above, strong earthiness, lingering alcohol aftertaste--with a touch of whiskey.

Bottle shared by a local. Poured a clear, deep copper color with a thin beige head that faded to a ring. Aroma of caramel malts, light peat, and brown sugar. Sweet, smooth entry with some caramel and brown sugar transitions in a light peatiness with hints of smoke and a light fruitiness. Low carbonation, smooth on the palate. Overall, a very solid and enjoyable scotch ale.

Bottle from a trade long ago. This one has probably been kicking around for a couple of years. Pours clear dark copper with a lacy tan head. Carmel apple nose, maybe a skosh of vanilla in there somewhere? Medium body and carbonation. Sweet taste of figs, caramel and apples. Apples show up in the finish as well, along with some nutty, earthy and woody notes. Not bad, but not quite what I was expecting.

bottle. pours a deep red with little head. very sweet on the nose... lots of brown sugar and some caramelized malts as well as a touch of alcohol. medium to full body over the palate... sweet malts on the tip to the back.. falls a bit smoother on the sides, but overall somewhat one dimensional. There is a nice strong finish... this one feels like it is more like 12%, not 8. A bit hot on the back of the throat... and some whiskey notes as well. Solid scotch ale from NC.

Bottle. Poured a clear amber color with a three finger sparse off white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee, with a peaty note present. Flavor of sweet malt, with a smoky finish. Great beer.

Bottle. Clear amber pour with big but fading off-white head. Very sweet malts--caramel and toffee with a slightly smoky/peaty thing, though not as much as desired from a Scotch ale. Strong notes of vanilla and a mild hop presence. Fairly distinctive for the style to my taste buds, but almost unbearably sweet.
