Commercial Description:
This Berliner Weiss bier has a nice acidic tartness that is naturally produced by a technique called "sour-mashing". It’s a light, refreshing German Wheat Ale that is served straight, or with a splash of Raspberry or Woodruff syrup in it - let your server know if you’d like the syrup in it! This beer is based upon a recipe by our friends Marc and Lars who won the Topsfield Fair Homebrew Competition with it. 4IBU

A Mes rate. Gravicask at GBBF.
Hazy yellow with a thin white head. A straight forward but enjoyable Berlinner Weiss. Lemon sourness on top and a good chewy malt base. You know the drill, I won’t rattle on. Good beer.

At GBBF 2009. Cloudy pale gold, no head. Very cereally on aroma. Slightly biting. Decent, really interesting. Good cereal in mouth and good lemon finish

Cask at GBBF 09 ....hazy yellow ... very light sour lemon nose ... sour and thin ... light puckering lemon ... more a lemon squash ... nice enough but a disapointing berliner weisse

One-third pint, gravity cask, GBBF 09. Grey-yellow body with a wheat haze. Light aroma of acid fruits. Tart fruits in flavour with prominent hints of kefir milk. Diluted texture. Drinkable, but really not my kind of beer. Awful to look at (London, 04.08.2009).

Cask at GBBF09. Alround rating: Initally a bit grainy malt, lots of lemon, touch buttery, but its infinitly refreshing massivly drinkable. I ended up having about 2 pints of this stuff over the cource of the day just to sort me out and i should have got more.

Cask@GBBF2009. Hazy yellow colour, not much head. Aroma is sour wheat, some caramel, nutmeg and citrusfruits. Flavour is wheat, sulphur, mild fruityness as well as some yeast.

GBBF 2009. Gravity cask. I had this twice. I was more impressed the second time. (Funny - same beer, same location - different impression). It’s a light and clean and very drinkable beer. The first time I felt it was like a cloudy traditional lemonade, and that I actually preferred the lemonade to the beer. The second time my impression was more like a soft and very drinkable lambic - that is that it was refreshing and flavoursome. I can understand why this beer is traditionally drunk with some fruit flavouring, as it can lack oomph. Interestingly, many years ago in Bristol and the surrounding "cider country", it was common for drinkers to have a drop of fruit juice/syrup (usually blackcurrant) in their cider. I picked up the habit and for several years in the 70s my favourite drink was "cider and black". I do feel that traditional British cider and lambic have a lot in common.
