Commercial Description:
This Berliner Weiss bier has a nice acidic tartness that is naturally produced by a technique called "sour-mashing". It’s a light, refreshing German Wheat Ale that is served straight, or with a splash of Raspberry or Woodruff syrup in it - let your server know if you’d like the syrup in it! This beer is based upon a recipe by our friends Marc and Lars who won the Topsfield Fair Homebrew Competition with it. 4IBU

Cask (gravity) at GBBF 2009, Day 1. Chiefly memorable for being the beer with which my count of US Berliner Weisses overtook my German total. Pale and hazy. Some decent lactic notes. Tart and refreshing. Quite authentic but I don’t find the style too interesting really. I would probably be more critical if Berliner Weisses were more common. Curiosity value can count for quite a lot.

Cask @GBBF 09; nice smell, good sourness, biscuity finish. however looks awful and seemed flat and lifeless

Cask Conditioned Gravity Dispense GBBF 09. A hazy yellowy ginger coloured beer. The aroma has sourness and acidity as expected together with lemony notes. Refreshing acidity in the mouth with some spritzy notes. Sour and yummy, but Schultheiss it ain’t

Cask, gravity, at GBBF ’09. Yellowish grey, very hazy. Not pretty. Sweet aroma with a hint of vinegar sourness. Fruity taste of grape, unripe apple and old fashioned liquid glue. Yes, I fancy a ’splash of syrup’ would be very acceptable. As it stands it’s a bit sour and, well, gluey.

Cask@GBBF. Hazy yellow color, not much head. Intensive sour grapefruit aroma. Sour grapefruity flavor. Big time grapefruit juice in the aftertaste. Very fruity and tasty.

Tap at ACBF. Aroma of wheat and tons of lemony notes. Flavor quite tart, but playfully so, still tons of lemon and wheat. Light-bodied, and rightly so, exquisitely refreshing.

My Bottom Line:
(Taken neat) Wonderful wheat and crisp tartness evolve into a refreshing, dry finish in this spot-on Berliner Weisse.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam stays atop the white cloudiness.
-This is, of course, absurdly drinkable. -The body is very healthy for a 3% brew. This is not thin like Berliner Kindl, for example.
-The sour mash is perfectly rendered and the resulting flavor profile is harmonious and levelled.

On tap at the brewpub.

Not my style. No shot of syrup. Sour aroma which I actually found pleasant. But the taste was just a bit too over powering for me. Some interesting wheat notes at the beginning.
