beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 8, 2005 Hazy yellow color with a thin creamy white head. Aroma of bananas and lemon. Flavor of bananas, lemon and bubblegum. Light to medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 31, 2005 Mild, grainy, citrus, spicey aroma. Opaque yellow body with decent white head that diminishes rapidly to cover. Graininess in the flavour is sweet with some light citrus and banana, light spices and a sugary finish. Light and somewhat watery body. Carbonation much too low for style. Sampled at the brewpub with ClarkVV, MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Mar 30, 2005 New England Road Trip Easter ’05 with MartinT, tiggmtl and Rastacouere, beer #26. Sample at the brewpub, joined by the locquacious and sagacious ClarkVV. Banana-cinnamon nose emanates from a solid opaque gold body with the requisite head...sweet-sour bready flavor is nice, but doesn’t quite hold up, undone by a thinness in texture. OK. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Mar 29, 2005 Cloudy opaque yellow, no head. Cookie bready nose. Christmas candy, spruce, cloves and dominating nutmeg deny the weizen qualities. Just too spicy and not relying on its ingredients enough. Cinnamon and dried bananas never manage to overtake the nutmeg. Watery texture confirms the lack of interest. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 28, 2005 Broad-shouldered cloves and nutmeg dance drunkenly atop an opaque, unfiltered curtain...Brash yeasty bitterness whirls amidst a somewhat stale mouthfeel, as a neat bubblegum burp pops up...All over the place, very flavorful, but maybe not cohesive enough to attract me into getting another... ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Jan 8, 2005 Updated: Mar 31, 2005On tap January 2005. Completely opaque (hazed-over) dark straw yellow, small, fleeting white head. Aroma of clove, light soapiness, sugar and some vanilla. Flavor is phenomenally sweet. It seems like they add a couple tablespoons of cane sugar to the pint before serving. Yikes!! It’s got a good enough yeast and consequently an ester profile, but it’s just way too much on the sugar. American hops flavor tries to balance, but dosent succeed, IMHO. Slightly watery body, lightly bubbly texture. Rerate Well I’ve since had this two more times, one of the times, at Bukowski’s tavern, being a horrible, soapy, bland, watery mess and the second time, at the Tap, being a good deal better than each previous time. But it probably balances out in score to an average weizen, which I feel it is. Needs some crispness and more yeast in the flavor, with much less wateriness. No head retention, and not even much head to begin with. BennyTicklez (621), USA Jul 11, 2004 Pours a hazy yellow. Lots of clove in this one. Slightly watered down. A good example of a german hefe. goz (359), Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA Jun 24, 2004 Pours a medium golden peach, with a large creamy white head that mostly lasts, lacing in sheets. Aroma is dominated by banana and clove, with a bit of breadiness in there as well. Flavor follows the aroma, with lots of banana and clove. Medium bodied, and another etremely drinable brew from the Tap.
Something about the beers here makes them super easy to drink - no off-flavors, very smooth, and just plain old addictive.
