halfonit (415), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA Nov 2, 2009 Golden brown color. Aroma is of wheat, yeast, coriander, and some orange peels. Taste is full of coriander, wheat, malts, and yeast. Has a sweeter aftertaste. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Oct 12, 2009 Bottled. Pours a very cloudy bronze yellow with a mildly lacing, soapy looking head. As soon as I started drinking this I had to look it up, I could swear there it is brewed with tea, but apparently it is not. The aroma is distinctly green tea, although with a fair bit of spicing and yeast thrown in there. It is great. It is deep and complex and very different, I’d love to know if it was just sheer dumb luck that got that tea note in there or what. A little bit of tea is the in the flavor as well, but not nearly as much, and it is a bit thin and too lively in the carbonation; slightly minerally, with a bit of sweetness. Flavor needs to dry out a bit and be a touch grainier. Still, an excellent wit, one of the best I’ve had. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 23, 2009 In short: A standard but superior witbier (wheat, bananas, coriander, lemonyetc.)
How: Tap at brewpub + 12 oz bottles
The look: Opaque dark yellow body topped by a small white head
In long: Nose of classic old-school Belgian witbier (Hoegaarden-ish) with coriander, orange peels, a little lemony. Taste is refreshing, wheaty, yeasty, orange peels, some bananas, lemony tartness of medium intensity, light spiciness, etc. I have described the same assortment of flavours so many times but this one has a pleasantly full body while remaining highly refreshing. Witbiers are what they are (beer lemonade) but this is one superiorly crafted. This Whittier White is just plain bettier than the competition. I got to drink a lot of them because my girlfriend thinks it is the best witbier ever and she bought a bunch. I personally don’t think it is the best witbier ever but the only way to get the last word in an argument with her is to say “you’re right honey.” PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Aug 7, 2009 Tap at BCTC 2009: Hazy light golden with a white film of head. Decent aroma- some soft lavender and coriander spiciness. Has a very light body. Decent spice presence in the flavor but it seems restrained and watered down slightly. Still decent. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 3, 2009 On tap @ BCTC 2009. Cloudy pale yellow pour. Lemony, spice, coriander notes. Flavor seemed a bit watered down but what wit wouldnt seem less flavorful after all the top notch beer at BCTC? ratman197 (3135), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jul 26, 2009 Bottle poured a cloudy gold with a lasting off white head. Aromas of wheat, yeast, citrus, pepper and light coriander. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp. Flavors of wheat, yeast, pepper, light citrus and light coriander with a smooth lingering peppery finish. puboflyons (587), New Hampshire, USA Jul 11, 2009 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with no expiration date or lot code listed. The pour is a very cloudy pale yellow with a fizzy white head. Pleasing aroma of wheat, yeast, and many different spices. The mouthfeel is medium-heavy. The taste is of coriander, spices, yeast, and malts. It was fairly true to the style. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Feb 16, 2009 (Draught) Pours a hazy pale yellow body with a small white head. Aroma of wheat, coriander, and lemon zest. Flavor of coriander, wheat, orange peel, and clove.
