Cask@Dartford BF. Yes, we were desperate for something dark, even if it meant Theakston Mild. Ever so lightly dark in flavour, some toastyness i suppose, but not well noticed, slightly raisiny and sweet, very thin palate.

Beer # 23 at Dartford Beer Festival with SilkTork and Duff. In a festival almost bereft of darker beers, we were keen to try anything. We should have stuck to the bitters, This mild was thin and uninteresting. ST may be right in his suspicion that this is just bitter darkened with caramel. Cask (gravity dispense).

Dartford Fest. Gravity. Bland. So obvious that this is the ordinary Theakston’s Bitter with some caramel. Not interesting at all. Tastes like a keg mild.

Cask conditioned - no sparkler - Malt Shovel Northampton. Aroma is of cherry skins, the beer is an attractive reddy black colour. The beer has a slight roasty taste, but the overriding experience is disappointing as it is too watery, but we’ve come to expect that of the big breweries in this country.

Gravity dispensed at The Rutland, Chesterfield (lovely pub!). Traditional Mild, with some coffee flavour, but in essence a light, smooth beer. Very dark brown, with a loose, bubbly head. Pleasant.

Cask, The Station, Habrough. Deep ruby red, almost black. Good off white head and moderate fine condition. Quite complex aromas of fruity berries, chocolate and some toast. Generous blackberry and chocolate in the mouth and a powdery chocolate and slightly woody finish.

Cask Conditioned at The Everley Hotel, Yorks. Dark russet brown with large head. Smokey, dry, bitterness in a flavoursome mild. Quite a grainy, musty finish.

[Cask conditioned] Spicy aroma, with smoked notes and notes of cayenne pepper. The flavour is also quite peppery. Unfortunately it finishes quite thin. Rating 7-4-5-3-13=3,2 Re-rate: [Cask conditioned] Very creamy head. Chocolate aroma. Nice roasty and dry flavour. Reminds me of a good Irish stout.
