Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

One of my favorites from the beginning. Pours a dark red/brown with a good cream head even from a bottle. Malty as I like, with some toffee. The end is a bit dry but you realize youre drinking a good english ale. I always enjoy this one.

Good beer and one I often return to. Dark and full bodied with underlying subtle cheesy notes which i’d say it would be rather good with. From the beers in the uk that are readily available its one of the best.

Bottle thanks to thirdeye11. Pours with an off-white head and a clear brown body. Aroma of caramel and brown sugar. Taste is caramel with a ton of fruity esters and brown sugar. Light carbonation.

I wanted something special for my first rating. I asked the guy at the Beer store his opinion. He cracked one of these open, and shared it with me. I thought it was great! It smells good, looks good (if you like brownish/black) it was sweet (fruity?) and I guess what is called earthy. Had what I thought was a slight cigar taste to it. (a good cigar) Overall it was excellent, so I bought a 6pk!

50cl dark brown bottle, label as shown. It sure is pretty: Pours an impressive dark reddish-brown with big, creamy beige head and generous lacing. Aroma of various red berries, toffee-ish sweetness, roasted malts. Low carbonation - creamy, if a wee bit grainy, mouthfeel. Taste is agreeably malty, balanced by dried fruit and some caramel. Dry, hoppy finish, lasting bitter aftertaste. The most complex of the Theakston brews that I’ve tried, and the one that now strikes as their most characterful and likeable. How impressions change! From the cask at the Beer Festival it struck me as too sweet, the bottled version doesn’t. Nice, complex dark ale.

Dark brown pour, a lot of chocolate in the aroma along with roasted nuts, tastes of chocolate and is a little smoky.
