| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 15, 2008 This is a very nice Old Ale, with tons of character and class. It basically defines the style, and it is a beer that I enjoy drinking again and again. Poured into a classic mug, it produces a rocky, beige head that quickly dissipates and leaves a small, long lingering ring of foam. The color is very dark brown, nearly black in most light. Raisins, figs, and brown sugar are the first noticeable aromas, followed suddenly by intense licorice, cola, and a spicy, herbal, earthiness. The taste brings anise and black currant to the experience, a fluttering presence of black cherry stays through the finish. There is no percievable hop presence, just plenty of smooth, toasted, chewy malt. If drunk cold, it has an oaky, very whiskeyish taste, but is best served warm, which is when the above mentioned flavors really make themselves know. Excellent mouthfeel- crisp, smooth, medium-bodied, remotely drying with a lively carbonation that tickles the tongue. This beer is very easy to drink, but entirely full of flavor. Very well rounded. I love it.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jul 12, 2008 Bottle; poured a muddy, reddish brown; fairly dark in color. Small, creamy head that was a shade darker than off white. Aroma was unsurprisingly very malty; fruit, caramel, dark fruit, molasses and some cola. Very impressive flavor initially, definitely taste the banana notes alluded to in the description. Generally a smooth palate, with some harshness and light bitterness in the finish. Flavor did get worse, not bad, but worse with more sips. More cola and caramel emerged. Only slightly sweet. Overall flavor was complex, but didn’t mesh as well as possible. I also strongly disliked the finish; the harshness/astringency did not go well with the soft on the palate beginning. MBison (548), Southern Highlands, Australia
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 8, 2008 Bottle (500ml) 5.6%. Poured dark burgundy with a averaged sized, creamy, off-white head which lasted very well. Strong notes of milk chocolate and creamy caramel in the aroma with some toffee malts, molasses, redberries, dates, some mild notes of English hops and a hint of cola. Flavor was velvety smooth with not much bitterness (but that makes up in flavor), creamy caramel, lightly roasted malts, milk chocolate, molasses, blackberries, mildly spiced cookies and some earthy notes in the finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, a creamy mouthfeel and a good finish. robforbes (1099), Bremerton, Washington, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 1, 2008 Pours a deep brown ruby color with a small head. Fruity malt head with some sour cherry notes. Flavor starts out very sweet and malty but finishes with a mild fruit sourness and some bitterness. Light-medium in body, nice crisp refreshing quality. Overall a good example of an old ale. chrismwpcs (73), South Hedland, Australia
