Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

This brew scores points with me for smooth drinkability, despite tasting slightly watered down. It was almost like a dark lager with more flavor, but with a peculier flavor. Another thing I remember was this beer had a great breadth of taste to it, although it lacked a depth regarding taste. I’ll have to drink it again to confirm the "banana notes" because I couldn’t put a finger on the particular flavors at the time.

Poured a very dark brown with only a moderate head. Malty flavor with a hit of dark fruit flavor. Not as full bodied and many of the darker beers, but still great.

roasted malts, nuts, sugars, reduced dark fruits. a really evocative flavour. one that i’ll need to come back to with more notes, and one to drink cool but not chilled.

Single bottle poured into my pint glass and allowed to rest and warm up for a while. I’ve been slowly sipping on this beer, and have found it to be very enjoyable. Moderately calm aroma of roasted malt and molasses. Burnt amber color with a small lasting tan head and some decent lacing. Full and very creamy on the palate. Smooth with a nice strong finish. Classic Old Ale flavors of burnt, stale malts. A touch bitter along with a residual sweetness. Nuts, coffee, brown sugar, and mild chocolate notes. Very flavorful and all around enjoyable.

Pours dark brown with off white head. Sweet notes on teh aroma. Malt and choclate dominate the taste and the finish has a medium bitterness. It is always fun having an old friend like teh peculier.

Thick head, seems like chocolate hops. Tastes almost like a dark stout, but fruity and less thick-bodied then that of a stout. Decent beer.

[750-20071010] 500mL. Faint floral malt aroma with hints of something darker, like chocolate or coffee notes. Clear, dark dark red body with a long-lasting foamy light tan head. Musty woodsy pine notes and something earthy in the flavour. Medium body is thinner than expected. Yes, it is "subtle and heart-warming" as promised, interesting to try.

Pours dark mahogany, lets just a bit of light through with brilliant amber highlights, big thick tan head fades slower than most, leaves significant lacing.Smells boozy, malty, sort of old mustiness, apple cider, tastes very with more apple cider, caramel, winey tartness, malt vinegar - this beer isn’t sour in terms of overall acidity but has flavors that remind me of a sour. Faint hint of espresso. Has an odd mouthfeel, lacking the roundness or richness that one might expect in a beer this malty. Good food beer, pairs pretty well with this pork pate I’m eating. Also has a little spiciness, like a milder version of what you usually get with a wheat dopple bock. My first old ale, good eneough to make me interested in trying more of the style.
