| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 14, 2007 What a nice, drinkable old ale, with a complexity that reminded me of a Belgian double, with maltiness, dark fruit overtones, and some funky mustiness. Restrained bitterness, slight sour tone, and vinous character. And all this from a bottle sitting on the shelf in the local grocery store. What I wouldn’t give for a pint of this fresh from the tap in an English pub. Guerde (710), Welcome, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2007 (bottle) Pours brown with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma is very vinous, like a dry white wine, but there’s some hints of sweet caramel in there too. Taste is fairly malty at first with caramel, but the finish is lightly bitter and somewhat dry, not bad though. OSLO (829), Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2007 [Bottle] Pours reddish-brown with a small white head that quickly disappears. Aroma is definitely sweet, with banana, malt and a bit of white wine. Taste is also malty, with very subdued fruitiness and a decent finish. Medium-mouthfeel, very smooth. Flavors don’t jump out, but isn’t completely one dimensional and is extremely drinkable. skunkt4 (12), Franklin, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 28, 2007 Maybe my favorite English bottled beer. Yeasty aroma and fruity flavors topped with a fair bit of hops. A classic that defies classification. BabyJoe692 (109), Pickerington, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 26, 2007 Bottle. Has moderate bready or doughy aroma. Pours a dark red/brown that you can’t see thru. Sweetly malty with a suble bitterness. tronraner (1938), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 25, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours dark red brown with big tan head. The aroma has lots of sticky sweet caramel and toffee, with notes of raisins and those dehydrated banana chips. The flavor is malty and smooth. There is quite a bit of raisin in there, along with some wood and chocolate tones. Some faint banana comes through once in a while, as does a touch of alcohol. The finish is a little bit nutty with some roasty caramel. Very drinkable. exadore (92), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 21, 2007 Bottle. Poured with a nice finger width of head. Body is a pleasant ruby brown color, and after the head is gone, has okay lacing. Initial smell and taste both reveal a fruitiness that is surprising. More sweet than bitter, with an interesting dry finish. Overall, a delicious beer that I’ve had before, and plan to have again.
