I’m not familiar with many commercial styles of English old ales. It reminds me a little of an ESB or a brown ale with a slight musty bitter aftertaste. The initial aroma and taste is very clean-- you detect the bitterness and must on the aftertaste. I thought it was interesting, but not spectacular. Would like to try a fresher sampe on tap. 17thfloor (1513), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Flavor is very complex highlighted by roasted malt ... but is a little thin... vague. Very good beer though. cstuartj (326), Washington, USA

A different kind of taste that I really cant put a finger on what it tastes like. Ok but not great. dchmela (1473), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2007 Bottle. Pours a deep brownish red. Banana and carmel in the nose. Drinks very smooth. This beer needs to warm up a bit to really get some of the flavors out of it. If you can ever find this on cask, its well worth it (I’ve had it in London and Edinburgh). It is served at almost room temp in the UK and it is wonderful. cgarvieuk (4225), Edinburgh, Scotland

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 22, 2007 Thin white head. Dark red-brown body rather like Coke. Sweetish roasty aroma. Sweet roasty licorice taste with dry, burnt caramel aftertaste. Marzipan notes. Quite good, but not too special. (0.336l bottle.)
