I don’t really like this style very much, but it was good. Nothing really wrong with beer but style is a bit plain and there isn’t anything very memorable in the flavor. Fine beer but nothing I can imagine myself craving. mstockton (186), Rochester, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 20, 2007 A nice darker colored beer. Nutty and a bit like a nut-brown ale. Seemed to have some alcohol flavor with some kick. GOod brew...I would recommend. McWorta (39), Luxembourg
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 13, 2007 Aye what a nice surprise for a mid weekend pint, with an aroma being roasty/toasty even earthy with elements of butterscotch. The appearance is not so spectecular but still a nice red/brown, cloudy/frothy colour. It is lightly bitter, with a medium sweetness to it which marks the earthyness, strong heavy ale flavour. The palate shows a totally full body, lightly creamy with a lively fizziness to it and a long finish! richard (3), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 12, 2007 Pours very brown, small beige head, fruity and seltzer(y)/carbonation. Aroma: diacetyl (butterscotch), dried dark fruits, woody and vinous, caramel and toffee. Like a strong Newcastle Brown (am I allowed to say that...?). Palate: med.-thin body, a touch flinty, med.-full carbonation. Flav.: woody, raisins, roasted malts, nice finish of burnt sugar and a touch bitter. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 7, 2007 Dark brown, nearly black appearance. Thick, foamy tan head that leaves some sticky lacing on the glass. Lots of carbonation. Sweet malty aroma with some hints of cocoa and some light spiciness. Malt-dominant flavors, with elements of cocoa, spices, and a light fruitiness. Smooth and velvety mouthfeel, perhaps a bit "light", but a very dry and crisp finish. Good stuff. Very sweet and a tad malty, but slightly bland for an ale of 5.7%. Not to my liking at all and stereotypical of a dirty northern brew of low quality. Northerners should stick to baking bread, putting ferrets down there trousers and beating their wives!
