| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 7, 2006 Pours blood red with some yellow tinged hues. Not much of a head. The nose is hmmm, peculier? There’s some sweet dark fruits in there, but then there’s also some tar and resinous alcohol. The body is a little thin, though it’s creamy enough. The flavors are even more baffling than the aromas. I get the initial sweet dark fruit, but then there’s more roast than I expected with some considerable smoke, tar and chemically tastes. The aftertaste is a strange sort of bitter. I’m not a huge fan of this beer, though it is certainly interesting even if it is peculier. Hendo (110), Sint Anthonis, Netherlands

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | May 5, 2006 Slight aroma of fruit and malt. Beautiful color (if you hold to a strong light). A plummy flavor (think Dr. Pepper a bit). The bitter is actually rather light. A thin, slightly sweet finish. Aftertaste is like a light version of La Binchoise Brune. This is really good stuff. Try Black Sheep’s Riggwelter for the younger generation’s version of this classic. kimcgolf (832), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Apr 30, 2006 Strong malty aroma. Poured to a dark brown with trace of ruby, and a slight, tan head that diminished soon after. Taste was very strong malt and chocolate, and very fizzy. Left a dry, bitter (not good) finish. Unimpressed with this one. KSS (102), Plymouth, Minnesota, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 26, 2006 Bottle. Medium brown color with a medium sized head. Nothing out of the ordinary in taste or aroma. Not bad, but I was a little disappointed. I had higher expectations based on others ratings. Beerdedone (1885), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 15, 2006 Beer pours a clear, very dark red-brown color with an average-sized, light brown, mostly and quickly diminishing head. The aroma is malty with heavy notes of husky roasted grain, moderate notes of sweet cookie and caramel; hoppy with light notes of herbs, trace note of resin/pine; yeasty with a trace of cheese and a trace of damp basement. The flavor is moderately bittersweet, moderately acidic with a long, lightly bittersweet finish. The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.
