The beer that made Masham famous! A rich, dark, smooth-tasting beer with an unequalled flavour. Brewed using the traditional Fuggle hop, Old Peculier is our best known beer and has a large and enthusiastic following all over Britain and around the world.

Cask, Royal Oak, Great Ayton, N.Yorks. A great get out of jail card this. Deep dark reddy brown with a smallish, lingering tan head. Fruity, roasted malt aroma. Toasty malts, dark choc, christmas cakey flavour. Quite rich. Had 6 pints of this in a few hours on top of 6 other misc pints + a few dark rums and I think the Old P was a big contributing factor to one of the worst morning afters of 08 !!

A Mes rate: cask at Baker St JDW.A lovely rich mahogany brown colour with a thin beige film on top. Both the aroma and flavour are that of sour off fruit. Clearly on the turn but I would expect nothing more from this disgraceful effort of a JDW pub.

Hard to imagine a better setting for this one....a cask pint in front of a real fire in a pub in an English village in the twilight after a day’s walking the countryside....immaculate pint in every way....

Draught available widely in UK. Superb dark ruby colour with light tan head. Slightly roasted malt aroma with hint of banana from, probably, fuggles hops. Warm, treacly flavour with the sweet undercurrent leading to a bitter finish. Highly recommended, just don’t spend an evening on it as it does far more damage than 5.6% would suggest.

(Museum Tavern) Dark amber colroed, little light brown head. Sweet, caramelly, licoricy aroma with some berries, rather sweet aroma. Medium bodied. Flavor is also sweet with licorice and also these berries, aftertaste is sweet still. Expected more out of this.

Scotland 05, cask. Dark brown with a huge, creamy head. The aroma is malty with nice notes of caramel, licorice, berries, fruits (dark) and a touch of nuts. The flavour is complex with the roasted malts as the main ingredients leading to notes of caramel, licorice, hints of chocolate and nuts, berries and dark fruit. I like this even more than the bottled version - very nice indeed.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Fish Inn, Northampton. A black beer with a white head. The aroma is chocolatey with fruity malty notes and a touch of acidity. The taste has more chocolate and suprising hints of banana. Some warm alcohol. Good enough.Score 3.3
