Commercial Description:
Cask;
First brewed in the Summer of 2004 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of CAMRA and named after ’Paradise Field’, a piece of land on the outskirts of Masham, which contained a small orchard. The field, purchased by my great-great grandfather, Robert Theakston, was where he built the current Theakston Brewery in 1870. A full-bodied ale, using pale ale malt and an exotic blend of old and new world full hop flowers, including Cascade to give a light, lusciously fruity flavoured taste. Brewed using the finest quality natural ingredients and over 180 years of brewing wisdom.

Cask handpull at Market Porter, London. Gold, thin beige head. Its a slightly earthy citrusy bitter. Earthy fruit. Actually pretty good.

(Cask at Market Porter, Southwark, London, 11 Aug 2007) Amber colour with off-white head. Fruity nose with distinct notes of apricots and mandarin. Fruity taste with apricots, mandarin and floral hops in a fairly dryish finish. Tasty, drinkable, hardly exciting.

Cask conditioned at The Eyre Arms, Haslam, Derbyshire. Amber with white head. It looked great to me, 10 miles into a hike. Good bitterness, but a little thin in the body, certainly quite refreshing, no big flavours, but overall fairly standard best bitter.

[CASK: The Salisbury Ale House, Manchester 08/10/06] Nob a bad ale but nothing special here. reasonable taste and overall drinkable. Don’t rush out to try as it’s not fantastic.

Cask (handpump) at The Old Bell, Fleet Street, London. This is arguably the best pub in Fleet Street, with the chance of an interesting beer now and again. However, this was manifestly not in good condition. Lifeless and rather warm, indicating that this pint may have been sitting in the lines for a while, with a dull, flabby mouthfeel. The fact that its a quite soft and malty brew, with a fair amount of sweetness and only a hint of hop character didn’t help. Amber colour. Not a great experience but I’m sure it can be better. Most disturbingly, the famous ancient triangular stools in the Old Bell seem to be being gradually phased out in favour of normal round ones.

Cask conditioned @ Humble Plumb, Soton. Fruity hops with floral hints. Quite malty some caramel and finishes heavy and sweet.

Cask Conditioned at the Black Jug, Horsham, Surry. Deep golden/chesnut colour, no head at all. The beer looked the worst for wear after it’s travels down from Yorkshire. This beer reinforced the message ’to drink local’ ales when ever possible.

A Mes rate: Cask at The Gatehouse JDW in Highgate. Mellow hop and creamy malt nose. Just very very faint. Lovely amber golden colour, shame about the head. Flavour is very similar to the nose but with a hint of caramel. A little too thin in the palate. Nothing offensive about it just not assertive enough. No real character
