Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
First brewed in the 1980s.
This is our premium strength bitter, ruby coloured with a rich flavour and full body. The balance between bitterness and fruitiness from the Bramling Cross and Fuggle hops used give XB the distinctively complex aroma, making it the beer to savour.

Crystal clear ruby body with faint carbonation. Caramel and orange in an alcohol-sodden nose. Flavour less interesting, but assertively hoppy enough to accompany a Rogan Josh. A definite malt whiskey smokiness I’m not too keen on. Way too much alcohol for an ale of such modest strength.

Arom a is balanced malts with fruity herbal notes. Taste is similar very easy going. Not the most intresting of beers but perhaps the most sessionable of the theakston range.

Fantastic deep amber colour, but loses points due to the (very nearly) total lack of head. Aroma is a lovely mix of malt & fruity hops, I hoped this would carry through to the palate but while it has a pleasant character with both malt & hops well represented, it is a tad on the light side which lost it a couple of points...nice tho!

Ruby colour with a full light cream head. Yeasty nose, some malt there, pleasant. Sweet in the mouth, malted, touch of bitterness towards the end, but easy to drink. Slightly oily mouth feel, not much carbonation. Some fruit towards the end. All-round nice beer to drink. Nothing that jumps out at you, no depth, but just, well, nice.

Dark amber with a full off-white head. Malt aroma, followed by yeast. Pleasant malt taste with some fruity sourness and just enough bitterness.

Bottle, 500ml. A dark amber-coloured pour with an average diminishing head. Aromas of hops and citrus with a touch of dough/yeast. Somewhat sweet taste of caramel, hops and plum/dark fruits. A syrupy texture. Light carbonation. A hoppy, fruity finish. Not bad at all.

Thick malty caramel aroma. Clear copper coloured body is topped by a low but lasting white head. Mild bitterness offsets caramel maltiness with some earthy and floral hop tones. Medium light body with fair carbonation. Cellar temperature. Shaker glass. Bottle (Feniton Spar).

A malty lingering bitterness doninates. It has a lovely well balanced body and comes into the top class of English bitters.
