Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
First brewed in the 1980s.
This is our premium strength bitter, ruby coloured with a rich flavour and full body. The balance between bitterness and fruitiness from the Bramling Cross and Fuggle hops used give XB the distinctively complex aroma, making it the beer to savour.

Sweet fruity aroma with toasted malt and caramel notes. Sweet flavor with caramel, malty and mild hoppy notes.

500ml bottle. Interesting to have this now it has split from Scottish and Newcastle. Deep copper colour with thin beige head. Slightly sweaty hop aroma. Red fruits and slightly yeasty. I like the aroma. Some caramel. OK in mouth and then more drying tangy hop. A nice premium bitter

Arom a is balanced malts with fruity herbal notes. Taste is similar very easy going. Not the most intresting of beers but perhaps the most sessionable of the theakston range.

Bottled, pasteurised, 500ml. Orange amber with carbonated head. Tremendously different to the cask, this is rather a thin, fizzed beer with a strained boiled hop note and a sweetish mid malt body. Lacks depth and subtelty.

Bottle: Copper coloured, smaller, firm, lasting and lacing off-white head; spicy hops in the fruity-malty, slightly caramelly nose; light to moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light bodied, but not watery; drier malty-bitter finish. Nothing wrong with this, but lacks a bit complexity.........

Bottled An amber coloured headless beer. Fruit, nuts and cardboard on the nose. Raisins, nuts and malt in the mouth. Swigs vary between poor and pretty decent. Enigmatic.

Bottle. Copper with a small head. Aromas are malty with fruit and some sourness. Nutty and earthy with fresh hops and pepper. Clean. Flavours are Malty with berries, raisins, some sourness. Nutty. Quite bland. Has too much prickly carbonation. Not even as good as the badly presented cask version I had some time ago.
