Pours a clear brown with small tan head. Nose is mostly bready, cookie-like malts, oak. In the flavor I detect sweet malt, dates, peppery and allspice yeasts, and some alcohol. Very warming. Thick, heavy, rather oily mouthfeel. Quite good

Taste is roasty malts. It was sweet, but not in a fruity way. It a heavy malted sweetness to it. Very full bodied. Rich and warm. Smooth and sweet. Its a nice one to sip and enjoy.

12oz bottle from Countryside Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark brown to black with a one finger white-tan head that settles slowly and heavily laces the glass. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of citrus, grapefruit, maple syrup, some slight hints of ripe fresh fruit, plum, wood, and spice. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of dark ripe fruit, citrus, grapefruit, some honey, caramel, and grassy yeast. Generally medium to full body with a sweet and malty finish.

Cloudy, golden orange appearance. Scent of window cleaner. Even in its youth, great balance of syrupy sugar and hoppy bitterness. Milk chocolate, pear, hazelnut, and molasses. I’ll plan on storing the next bottle for a bit.

12oz. Pour was deep brown with frothy beige head. Aromas of malt, dark fruits, and a slight hop presence. Flavor is overwhelmingly smooth. Hops, malt, and nice plum flavor were all there. Nice brew.

On tap at South Park Tavern. Cloudy Medium brown in color. Sugary and malty sweet aroma with a touch of hop. Sweet and boozy flavor like a typical barley wine with a crisp and dry hoppy finish. Good stuff.

12oz bottle. Pours a murky, amber-red body with some particulate floating around. Very thin, beige head that dissipates immediately and remains delicately laced. The aroma is mainly sweet and malty. Lots of strawberry candy sugar malts with a bunch of toffee and a light boozy and doughy yeast backing. Flavor is initially very rich and sweetly malted before finishing boozy and moderately citrus hopped. Palate is pretty full and chewy with a dry and very woody finish. Overall, this is pretty boozy right now. The big maltiness is balanced decently well right now with the bitterness, but the big booze flavor is really bothering me. I’m going to age the rest of this six pack and hope that this matures in time. I look forward to re-rating this in the future, but until then, this is off.

(11/3/08) Bottle sample at a tasting in Pizza Port in Carlsbad (thanks whoever). Cloudy reddish-brown color with a beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, a bit of earth and wood and chocolate hints. Very sweet and malty flavor with caramel, some chocolate hints, some fruitiness and alcohol notes. Full-bodied.
