Rich malts, caramelized figs, candied raisons, rich caramel flavors with dark dried fruits, very smooth, with spicy hoppy finish. madmitch76 (645), , Essex, England

Cloudy reddish-brown that glows ruby in the light. White thin head with minimal lacing.
Aroma of butterscotch, dark fruit, brown sugar and a big whiff of alcohol.
Sweet and alcoholic malt body, with strong notes of butterscotch, plum and molasses. Ends with a very peppery hop note, but not bitter at all.
Low carbonation, thick chewy body, a little smooth but also a little chalky.
Solid Barleywine overall, but there are others I would rather seek out again, as this has a little more booze than depth.

Poured a nice dark burgandy. Flavor is all dark fruit a good touch of brown sugars and nice grapefruity hop. Palate is mouthfilling. Overall, what can I say about Bell’s, it’s hard to find a bad one. timbeer (57), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 3, 2009 bottle - cloudy/hazy brown beer, pours a bit thicker than water with a smallish head that doesn’t leave much for lacing. It seems like it doesn’t have much for carbonation but a good swirl of the mug brings out more bubbles. Complex aroma with strong caramel, brown sugar, dark fruits and a hint of hops. Goes thick over the tongue, smooth and a bit hot. Mildly bitter but it balances well with the malt. I like this BW and plan to age a few. NayTron (43), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA
