this was bottled in 05 and the aging did it well...some sherry notes and english barleywineish type flavors....fairly thick mouthfeel and low carbonation. A darn good barleywine. Rciesla (3770), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 26, 2008 Bottle this is a solid bw and i could see someone saying it is their favorite. Pours a ruby brown and thin head. Flavor is vinous, with a strong hop presence that is loaded with hop flower aromas flavors and resins. I should age a bottle to allow the hop character to mellow. demeanus (1), Trenton, Michigan, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | May 20, 2008 Just another great beer offered by Bell"s. Quite possibly their best, right up there with Hopslam and Expo stout. IMHO. doubleipa (224), Georgia, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | May 20, 2008 Creamy, light brown head. Heavymalt, dark bread, burnt, dark chocolate, and stron gcoffee. No hoppiness. Light dough and some licorice. Initial flavor was lightly sweet, acidic, and bitter. Texture was oily and with a full body. Carbonation was flat. Excellent old ale, no alcohol feel. Great long aftertaste and loads of malt and coffee. 17thfloor (1502), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 15, 2008 Updated: Jun 8, 2008[Fresh 2008 bottle for later comparison] Pours a deep ruby red/orange with a thin fine white froth. Aroma of sweet cherries, malted rye, citrus, toffee and plums. Sweet and very rich caramel malt flavor with light citrus. Finishes very bitter, somewhat tannic, I’m sure this will mellow with time. A little bit of cherry cough medicine flavor. Smooth syrupy body. Needs age... which is why I have more bottles =)

Aroma of heavy malt, dark fruit, and alcohol. Taste is sweet, somewhat tart, malty and a bit bitter. Standard barley wine flavor, very well done. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 7, 2008 12 oz bottle: Pours a true brown with many bubbles that slowly fade away and a very thin bubbly off-white head. Aroma of apple and brown sugar and maybe some raisin. Very full flavor, sweet and chalky, with the alcohol only slightly hidden with the sweetness. Very bitter finish on the tongue. This is a sipper for sure.
