| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 13, 2008 november 07 bottle. Pours a dark ruby with a thick off white head. Huge malt aroma, lots of sweet everything going on here. Flavor is just massive malt, brandy. brown sugar, toffee, maybe a bit of hops. Finishes amazingly smooth, perfect mouth and carbonation. This is really, really good. Probably the most drinkable barley wine I’ve ever sampled. TyRip (40), Canton, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 8, 2008 This ale/barley wine gets high marks for everything. Frothy head, rich malty and hoppy aroma, nice alcohol warming, malt complexity, and very nice citrusy hopped finish. It lacks a little bit of overall cohesion, but is certainly a special beer nonetheless. Worth a try for sure, and I would love to have an aged example. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA

Looks great - thick brown with nice yellow-cream colored head. Smells great as well - caramel and malt and some roasted toffee in there too. Taste is interesting - it is toothache sweet. It almost reminds me of dissolved pure sugar cane. Thick and dense texture and finish. Bourbon wasn’t very present in my opinion (or at least not where I wanted it to be). Overall, pretty darn good and drinkable. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA

Pours a rich dark caramel color with a yellowish beige head. Taste is rich dark caramel and almost orange creamy citrus as well. More than ample finishing hops to balance and a lingering very mild sweetness and alcohol flavor at the end. This was a pretty good beer and a nice example of the style. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 3, 2008 June 2006 - I’m almost ready to pack the family up and move to Michigan. Another winner from Bells. Beer poured cider brown, little head, but decent lacing. First sip yielded disappointment as the beer just tasted candy sugar sweet. The flavor mellowed a lot as it warmed, however, as the caramel, fruits and hop bite finish came out nicely. Rich leathery mouthfeel. The base flavor wasn’t as good as Olde Suffolk, but the hop finish made up for it. sgallant (21), USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Amazingly complex and strong. The hops slow you down and alcohol makes sure you know you’re in for a kick. Definitely a sipping beer.
