I have had this many times and it is consistently excellent, with a rich, foamy head and great texture and body. The flavour is strong and rich, being well-balanced with a roasted malt tatse but without too much of a coffee element too overpower it. I think this is an excellent porter and it is also very smooth and drinkable. On Cask: On cask, this is definitely a little different, but I can’t fully identify how. The closest I can come is saying that it has more of caramel-spice element to the body, but it is more mild overall. It’s hard to say which way I like it better.

Draft at the brewpub. Toasted malt aroma. Maybe a chocolate hint. Near opaque brown/black color with a tan head. Medium body with very smooth carbonation. The flavor reminds of the old Guinness (this is a heavy porter). It’s a very toasted porter with a nice amount of bitter in the finish.

On cask @ Third Street poured a translucent brownish black with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocolate and licorice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of bitter chocolate, a hint of coffee and vanilla with a dry bitter finish.

Potent roasted malt nose, dark brown color. Charcoal notes throughout with a espresso end. Thinish but OK for a porter. One-dimensional (roasted malt) but fun to drink.
