This has for some years been among my favourite stouts. It has a good smokey element and rich, full flavours. As one might expect, this has a toasty chocolate element, and it is almost perfect, lacking an odd burnt or skunky flavour that one can find, lingering just long enough, and not being too sharop or overpowering. It mellows out nicely without becoming thin, bland, and watery. It is also very well balanced and exceedingly smooth and drinkable. The head is pretty good, light tan, and creamy and it leaves pretty god lacing. It’s been hard for me to go back to Guinness ever since I found this. Give it a somewhat fuller head, body, and palate, and it would be aqbout perfect.

On tap, nitro, at the brewpub in Santa Rosa I liked this beer. Great roasty/coffee aroma, dry mouthfeel, smooth, tasty.

Very smokey aroma with chocolate and caramel. Taste is also very smokey and roasty with coffee. Similar to a java stout.

GABF 2004. Black with a large, creamy light-brown head. Excellent lacing. Chocolate, roasted malt, and burnt grains in the aroma. Average flavor duration with light sweetness, finishes moderately bitter. Medium-bodied, and a tad too thin for my tastes.
