Commercial Description:
India pale Ale, or IPA, was developed to quench the thirsts of British settlers in the East and West Indies. The Bodega Head IPA recreates the stylistic ideas of the 1800’s. High alcohol and aggressive hop charecteristics are matched with a dry malt background and finish.

I had this on tap at the brewpub in Santa Rosa. This is a ’hop juice’ ipa. Lots of citrus and pine

On tap @ the brewpub. The chalkboard lists this @ 7.1%. Clear golden amber with one finger fading off-white head. Aroma of citrus, sweat, and a bit of mango and light caramel malts--not very strong, and as nice as it sounds, merely OK. Flavor turns the malts slightly biscuity and earthy, and the hops turn slightly piny with the citrus. Bitterness peaked @ a 4 in the dirty dry finish. Moderate carbonation with a medium body. Decent at best.

Draft @ the brewpub. Pours a pale golden color with a small white head. Has a malty hoppy aroma with some hints of grapefruit. Malty hoppy bitter pine needles flavor with some hints of grapefruit. Has a slightly sweetish malty hoppy bitter finish with some hints of grapefruit in the aftertaste.

Tap at the brewpub. The deep gold body had a thin off white head on top. grapefruit and peanuts were balanced by some malty bread crust in the aroma. A taste of bitter grapefruit was balanced with almonds and hints of pine resin. Decent overall.

Strong hop presence. Good bitter, but one of the hops was a weird choice and does not sit well with the other flavors. Totally decent but nothing special.

Clear, pale straw body that was suprisingly full-bodied. Very floral with a british malt character. Dry with light grapefruit notes.

Draft at the brewpub. Same exact color as the cast pale ale, bronze-red. Thin top. Nice orange blossom aroma. Thick and viscuous, this borders on a DIPA/IPA with a body-builder’s physique of a beer and a rich, malty punch. Advertised the day I was there as 7.1% ABV. (#3402, 4/10/2008)
