Commercial Description:
India pale Ale, or IPA, was developed to quench the thirsts of British settlers in the East and West Indies. The Bodega Head IPA recreates the stylistic ideas of the 1800’s. High alcohol and aggressive hop charecteristics are matched with a dry malt background and finish.

Draft at the brewpub. Same exact color as the cast pale ale, bronze-red. Thin top. Nice orange blossom aroma. Thick and viscuous, this borders on a DIPA/IPA with a body-builder’s physique of a beer and a rich, malty punch. Advertised the day I was there as 7.1% ABV. (#3402, 4/10/2008)

Orange gold color. Medium head. Aroma is malty, fruity and a touch floral. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are nutty and sweet. Touch of fruit. Hops are grapefruity and piney. Smooth taste. Balance is a touch towards the hops. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Poured from the tap to a light reddish-orange with a thin white head that lingered thru mid glass and left decent lacing. Nose was a nice crisp citrusy grapefruit, mouthfeel was full and tingly and the flavor even accentuated the grapefruit more than the nose. This all led to a full long finish. A pleasant surprise from this out of the way place.

Big hop nose, amber color, low frothy head. Fairly big body--enough to support the stingy hop bitter end. Smooth. Good American IPA.

Draft at the brewpub. Dark gold pour. Big citrus pine aroma. Taste is nice and crisp malt with a pronounced hop bitterness. Tasty brew.

Tap at the brewpub. The deep gold body had a thin off white head on top. grapefruit and peanuts were balanced by some malty bread crust in the aroma. A taste of bitter grapefruit was balanced with almonds and hints of pine resin. Decent overall.

On tap GABF ’02: Hoppy aroma (dry hopped) drifting over a light yellow/orange body. Ends fairly bitter, but without the fanfare of the aroma. Oily mouthfeel
