Commercial Description:
This strong barley ale represents the flavor of Germany’s famous Doppelbock style. “Doppel” meaning double, this dark, rich, intensely malty beer uses twice the amount of malt for extra alcoholic strength. It is brewed only in August, and lagered for the annual Oktoberfest.

2008 vintage sampled at the brewhouse. Pours a transparent brown/amber with zero head. The aroma is pretty wild, booze, raspberry, apple. Flavor is fruity, malty, very sweet. Hot, boozy finish. Very unique and unlike other dopples. Not very malt forward.

(10/28/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Santa Rosa. 8.7%. Dark amber-brown color. Aroma of malt, sufganiyah (a jewish kind of doughnut) and some cookie dough. Malty sweet flavor with sufganiyah and caramel. Medium-bodied. Tastes too much like a sufganiyah.

Draft at the alehouse. Near opaque brown color with minimal tan head. Rich malty aroma with some floral aspects. Medium plus body with firm carbonation. Flavor starts with a rush of dark fruits. Even dark berries. Finishes towards dry though malt lingers. One heck of a drink on a cold day. It cut the black in the black and blue burger.

Dark brown body with a soft tan head. Deep roasted malt with a very earthy essence. Fruity and peppery with a great dry, lightly bittered finish.

16 oz swing-top [2004] poured a hazy dark copper with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of roasted malt, banana and dark fruit. Palate was light bodied and warming. Flavors of dark fruit, peach, a hint of banana and carmel with a warming lingering sweet finish.
