ratman197 (3137), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jun 17, 2007 On tap @ 3rd St. poured a hazy copper with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel and fruitiness. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, fruitiness and a hint of spice with a smooth semisweet finish. Hides it’s alcohol well and is amazingly drinkable! luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jun 10, 2007 Draught at the brewery. Beer is cloudy, medium caramel-brown with a small, white, rapidly and totally diminishing head.
One of those... based on the dirty nose, don’t even want to taste it. Malty with a moderate note of toasted grain, light caramel; Hoppy with a light/moderate note of lemon zest, moderate/heavy note of tea; Moderately weighty miscellaneous notes of sherry and wet cardboard.
Moderately/heavily sweet, lightly acidic with a long, moderately sticky sweet, trace bitter and acidic finish. Oxidized retros.
The body is medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is fizzy.
Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jun 8, 2007 Draught at the brewpub. Head is fully diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), with notes of bubble gum and DMS. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively/soft carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Wow, yikes. Watery, sour, unclean smelling/tasting, couldn’t drink more than a few sips. pivo (2535), Germany Mar 17, 2007 Deep amber color, low frothy head. Sweet caramelly body with a very bitter hop end--almost too much for a Maibock. Good beer, but off style. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany Feb 1, 2007 at the brewpub: Amber color, small head on top, leaving laces. Not a Maibock! Very bitter - which I like, some hints of alcohol but very hidden. ChristianSA (368), Copenhagen, Denmark Nov 18, 2006 Swing-top bottle (proclaiming it to 7,1% alcohol????). Had this a couple of times on tap at the brewpub and it was one of the highlights of my trip to CA. The bottle is good too - but nowhere near as good as the stronger tap-version. However, since I only rate in front of the computer this is for the bottled version (sorry guys!). Dark amber with small ugly big bubbled head which takes some effort to get. Malty grainy aroma with hints of alcohol and light dried fruit (apricot/pineapple). Very well balanced and full flavor sporting caramel, light butter and a sugary finish and nice lingering bitterness. Low carbonation and viscous mouth feel.
Clean and satisfying brew - but go for the tap version if you get the chance.
P.S. Why is it called an "Eisbock" here on Ratebeer? I have not seen them advertising it as such? bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Aug 7, 2006 Draft. Rich amber beer with an off-white head. Low malt aroma. Rich caramel flavor with some dates and a bit of fruitiness. Also a touch of earthiness. Lingering sweet malt. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA May 30, 2006 Dried fruit and alcohol make up the aroma of this beer. Taste is alcohol, salt, and caramel. Pretty crappy, alcohol is too present and overwelms everything.
