dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 14, 2009 Draft at the brewpub. Deep brownish red pour. Toffee, roasted malt, nutty aroma. Big thick sweet malt molasses and toffee taste. Very good. IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Apr 6, 2009 Best of the bunch at the pub! Nose of roastiness, chocolate, caramel, and a molasses note. Clear cherry with a moderate beige head. Flavor had chocolate, some lightly sweet dark fruitiness, and hint of light bitterness. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Apr 4, 2009 On tap @ the brewpub. Chalkboard says this batch is 8.0% ABV. Clear copper with a small beige head, fading to a ring. Toasty grain and chocolatey malts dominate, with a little caramel in the backend. . . a litlle bit of molasses as well. Can’t pick up on any smoke--I want smoke!. Oh well. Flavor is much the same with a fair amount of grainy sweetness. Semi-dry with bitterness @ a 2. Light carbonation with a medium full body. Not too bad at all. badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Mar 27, 2009 Dark copper brown with no head. Faint caramel aroma. Molasses and candy taste with sugar and toffee notes. Alcohol well hidden but a little on the sweet side bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Nov 27, 2007 Cask at the brewpub. Deep roasted malt aroma. Mahogany color with a white head. Medium body with very smooth carbonation. Sweet roasted malt flavor backed by floral hop. The finish is sweetish, and the bitter is simply present. Seems a good representative of the style.
