bhensonb (2884), Woodland, California, USA Nov 27, 2007 Cask at the brewpub. Deep roasted malt aroma. Mahogany color with a white head. Medium body with very smooth carbonation. Sweet roasted malt flavor backed by floral hop. The finish is sweetish, and the bitter is simply present. Seems a good representative of the style. Wulfstan (443), California, USA Sep 27, 2007 Updated: Dec 6, 2007This is a good scotch ale. It has a deep, reddish brown body and a small but fairly thick light tan head, giving a nice first impression. Unfortunately, the head starts off nicely but disspiates fairly quickly. It leaves moderately good lacing at first, but this dissipates quickly as well. The real stengths are the taste, palate, and aroma. It has prominent, but nicely rounded and complex roasty malt flavour and a prominent rich, deep, and faintly sweet caramel-toffee element offset with a nicely rounded bitterness. The body is good, well balanced, and it feels and tastes fairly rich. bb (2088), Martinez, California, USA Feb 12, 2007 Draft. Rich amber beer with a low off-white head. Caramel aroma. Rich caramel flavor with slight berry fruit and slight roastiness. Full/medium bodied. Lingering caramel/toffee. Enjoyable.
