tomthompson89 (1245), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 1, 2008 Wow really impressed with this beer, lotsa foam, but the retention is incredible, straw colored with some chunks kinda hazy. Nose is herbal grassy some floral hops. Flavor has some sweetness and again herbal, light citrus soo wel balanced and so easy drinking, crisp refreshing.
ryan (1709), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Jan 8, 2009 Hazy golden body with a large, rocky white head. Wonderful fresh cut grass hoppy nose with a touch of citrus and warm dough. The flavor fairly dry and moderately bitter with a decent malt pressence - cracker, bread, hay, with lots of herbal and grassy hops, some light lemon shows at the end. Mouthfeel is quite dense for a 4.5% beer, it’s still light and spritzy though with plenty of carbonation. A superb beer and I think the scores would be a bit higher if it wasn’t for the green bottles. Certainly deserves mention with Taras Boulba and La Rulles Estivale. Glad I found a couple buried at the back of the shelf! glennmastrange (491), hobe sound, Florida, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bottle. Moderate straw note for the malt, lemon for the hops and a heavy musty smell for the yeast with hints of apple, wood and corriander. Head is huge, fizzy, slightly off-white with good lacing and is fully lasting. Color is murky khaki tan with a thin amount of miniscule particles. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic then the long finish is lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery yet a little slick and has a fizzy carbonation. Nice aromas and light flavors make this a very drinkable Saison. santoslhalper (312), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 24, 2008 Thanks to Tom for the bottle! Cloudy gold with a big rich white head and nice lacing. Funky farmhouse aroma with grass, pine, acidic, lemon, pear and ginger notes. The taste is very clean with lots of spice. Coriander, pepper, cloves, grass, ginger, acid and pale malts. Interesting and delicious. kmweaver (2274), Nicaragua Sep 30, 2008 750mL bottle, courtesy of acrdz. Thanks, Mike! Pours a hazy, honey-golden color; huge, textured off-white head with great retention and foamy lacing; some small particulates. Slightly skunky aroma; lots of mineral bitterness, floral notes, and white pepper in the nose; minerals, pepper, nicely dry. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of dry, toasty notes upfront, white pepper, and dry complex yeastiness; seems light-struck overall, but the solid, dry saison character underneath is still quite apparent; toasty, bready, peppery saison with complex floral notes; quite nice; would like to try this under better circumstances (less skunked). Medium finish: dry pepper, toasty malts, and dry bready yeastiness; skunkiness lingers. acrdz (4535), Boulder, Colorado, USA Sep 30, 2008 Huge overflowing white head (large bubbles) on top of a hazy golden body. Nose is somewhat corn-laden, I think this one could be light struck, it does come in a green bottle... it’s got a bit of a greenness, some celery flavored hops, some cattiness, a little bit of funk, but light-struck to a sharpness. A faint bit of sweet cheese shows up late, some skunkiness... weird, I don’t think this is in the best condition, but it’s still enjoyable.
