chris_o (4405), London, Greater London, England Dec 7, 2006 On draught at The Wharf, Aalborg, August 2005. An experimental brew by all accounts and shown as 8.0%, but it wasn’t a proper pump clip so this could have just been an error. Rather murky copper colour, with very little carbonation. A quite strong resinous hop aroma. Rich and fruity on the palate. Apples, pears, Seville oranges and marmalade put in an appearance. Not too sweet, with decent bite on the finish. Quite heady, with lots of alcohol apparent. Promising.

Cloudy orange coloured with an off white head.
Sweet fruity aroma with lots of caramel, pine needles and aroma hops.
Sweet flavour of malts and caramel with notes of hops, pine needles and cookies.
madsberg (4365), Bangalore, India Aug 26, 2005 Handbottled: Amber coloured. Clear. Brownish medium sized head. Very sharp alcohol nose. Light berries and light fruit. This goes for the flavour as well. Alcohol is pretty dominant and probably will be more smooth after some aging. This is not a Barley Wine that at its present state appeal to me, but as mentioned, it might grow into something very good after some years in the cellar. Ungstrup (11031), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 25, 2005 A hazy amber beer with a beige whipped cream head. The aroma is sharp with notes of fruits and berries - cow berries standing out, but also some metallic notes from the alcohol. The flavor is of cow berries and alcohol, which lends it hints of metal - the flavor is also very sharp. All in all a very sharp edged Barley Wine - I believe it’ll get better with some aging and some slightly more rounded edges. I have to start this rating with a huge thanks to a great bartender at The Wharf in Ålborg. I called the pub asking for this beer and he explained to me that they only got one keg (as the only bar in Denmark!!) and without notice he offered to bottle some of it and send to me without charge!!! I was stunned!! Pours slightly hazy dark orange with a fine light tan head. Sweet and somewhat candied aroma with malt and fruit notes, mostly berry. Nice and well balanced. Flavor is a bit dusty and slightly oxidated malty and grassy with tones of hay. Quite sharp and biding on the tongue with a warming tone of alcohol. Nice and pretty tasty, but a bit unbalanced.
