Commercial Description:
Kom fra Thisted Bryghus i 1989 efter syv års eksperimenter. Navnet stammer fra Urban-bryggeriet i Aalborg, hvor brygmesteren fra Thisted Bryghus i slutningen af 70érne ”slog sine folder”. Her fik han første gang ”smag” for provinslivet og denne særlige øltype, som ofte i Thisted-regi betegnes som øllets gentleman. Navnet købtes efter Urban-bryggeriets lukning i 1986. Limfjords-Porteren ”kredsede” brygmesteren om frem til 1997, hvorefter han ikke mente længere at kunne forbedre produktet. Den rette blanding af maltene var opnået. Af usædvanlige ingredienser skal nævnes røgmalt og engelsk lakrids, der tilsammen giver en smagsmæssig balance på et lidt højere niveau end det sædvanligvis ses. Brygmesterens personlige favorit og ”hjertebarn”.

Thanks to yespr for the beer! The bottle looks really good. The beer in the glass is incredible. Very dark, nice head. Tastes very malty, strong and dry, not too scratchy. Porter is not my favourite style, but this one is really good!

(Draught at HBF2008) Very dark brown colour. Light brown medium sized head. Sweet nose containing bit of roasted malts. Taste contains roasted malts, a bit of coffee and also liquorice.

A Mes rate: bottle at Chris_O’s Ha Ha Ha Ha Gimme the Cheese Tasting.
Black with a slim tan head. Smoky and roasty malt with some very slight liquorice and coffee notes. Pretty much straight down the line but rather dominated by the smokiness. A decent bit of Baltic.

Bottle at Chris_o’s The Wolf tasting. Very dark brown. Decent choccy porter, bit of smoke, a little harsh maybe in the mouth. I had more Danish beer tonight than I think on any other day.

Dark brown to black, thick and lacing tanned head. Full, malty and slightly burned aroma with herbal hops, coffee and chocolate. Flavor is burned malts and chocolate, slight hops in the finish. Smooth and full bodied palate. Very nice and full porter.

(Draught@HBF2008) Very dark brown with a medium, tanned and creamy, lacy head. Aroma of sweetish maltiness and roasty burnedness, with some lactic sourness. Slightly sweet, roasty malt in the flavor, with medium bitterness and a dry, roasty finish. Medium body, soft carbonation. A very balanced, not the most interesting, but enjoyable porter.

A nice roasted taste of smoked "gentleman" beer, the missing of strong aroma seems to expand the experience of taste
