Commercial Description:

Tried this one quite a few years ago and thought it was extreme. Now I find it a delight in small doses. Black pour topped by a beutiful creamy light brown head that lasts. Aroma of Tar, Smoke, Roasted malt, hints of coffe, and choclate. Lightl bitterness troughout the drink. Starts also slightly acidic but becomes more salty and alcoholic towards the end. It’s powerful but balanced. Medium to full bodied, the texture is creamy and a bit dry with soft carbonation. Leaves a lasting impression and is certainly recommended.

Bottle pours black with reddish edges. Coffee, smoke and licorice. Flavor is smoky malt, a little coffee and chocolate with licorice notes in the finish.

Shared with Radek, Frylock, Garthicus and Blankboy - thanks to Swoopjones for the bottle. Black, nice tan head. Nose is coffee, rich toffee, a bit of alcohol & spice. Flavor is huge roast, a bit burnt, honey, rich rich malt. Lingering sweet finish.

Bottle. Smoked licorice! Do I need to say any more? Coffee. This is an easy to drink, yet complex porter.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a huge tan head that lasts a good ten minuets into this lovely beer. As I type there is still a thick layer of tan foam covering the beer, also leaves some awesome lace. Aroma is peated malt smokiness over chocolate. Flavor is smoky peated malt, chocolate, coffee and some raisin in the mix. The black licorice really comes through in the finish, along with bitter chocolate. Very creamy mouth feel, this would go great with chocolate cake. Wow! This was a huge surprise to say the least, I’d heard to was great but this one lives up to the hype, and only $4.99 a bottle. Better stock up.

What can I say, it’s distinctive and delicious. There is a strong smoked-meat character here, I won’t say bacon, that’s just too easy. More like smoked salmon. Smoked salmon in a bottle. Yum. Now that’s good beer.

11.2oz bottle with 01/07/09 stamped on the front label. Pours a deep brown, almost black body with a finger-width, brown, creamy head that dissipates slowly and leaves lots of succulent lacing. Gorgeous with great retention. Aroma is strong smoked malts that are a bit meaty with plenty of bittersweet dark chocolates. Licorice and burnt raisin sweetness accompany the creamy chocolates more and more as this warms. Flavor is sweetly smoked with lots of bittersweet dark chocolates and a bit of ash. More of the licorice and burnt raisin comes in before this finishes with an even mix of smoke and creamy chocolate. Dry and slightly metallic with a medium length aftertaste with the smoked malts sticking out the most. Medium bodied and smooth with just a touch of carbonation. Overall, a delicious Baltic Porter. Not the most complex, but well put together and well balanced. Very impressed.
