Aroma is good with "rauchbier-tones": strong smoke and ham dominate, sweetness, mild alcohol and hints of licorice also there. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is milder with still good smoke and some roasted licorice. Coffee and chocolate in aftertaste. flemmingwillum (249), København S, Denmark
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 15, 2006 I like the new Danish microbrews, but you are not to laugh of the old danish breweries either. There are some real goodies between; for example this Limfjords Porter named after a beautiful Danish inlet. The head of this beer is big and beige, and diminishes slowly. It’s colour is completely black. The aroma is very smoky with coffee beans, a lot of roasted malts and a little sourishness too, which I think is rather typical for Thisted Bryghus’ beers. The flavor is smoky with obvious coffee and liquorice and a constant bitterness from both malts and hops. In the aftertaste this dry beer becomes very bitter from the hops, and has a lot of smoke and liquorice. The body is just perfect for the beer, and it is very creamy. Maybe this beer is not brewed with the same care as Ølfabrikken Gammel Ekstra Porter, and maybe there are not used as big amount of ingredients, but the smoky flavor makes it at least as interesting, if not more. dandue (5), Denmark does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Dec 1, 2006 i like stouts and porter - this is my favorite one. Very strong taste and thick body: roasty, chocolate, coffee, very black. Good beer to mix with other liquid, for an example "snaps", pilsner, citrus etc. U gotta try Limfjords Porter!!! ;-) Tranquillity (1181), Espoo, Finland
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2006 Gift from rickgordon. Very strong malty taste. The beer is thick as oil and smooth as an... oil refinery maybe? :) The beer is as black as it gets with a medium brown/thick head. The malt, oak, smoke, and tar hits you in the face like a Finnish salt candy. Smells a bit of tobacco actaually. Oil rig worker maybe? I usually prefer thin white girls, but this thick black baby is a charm! Kalli (480), Falun, Sweden
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2006 Nice malts compete with clay in the aroma. Really the only strike against this exiting brew.
Hard liquorice, even rough, doesn’t dominate, but is memorable along with smokey toffee. The liquorice is really what did it. Even if it felt a bit harsh it came off feeling right for the overall taste. Pours a dark brown center (nearly black); khaki head with decent lacing. Plenty of charred malts, bitter chocolate in the aroma; hints of smoke. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy malt profile showing maple syrup, burnt malts and bitter chocolate. Medium finish: slightly dry.
